Position Information The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) School of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time, 12-month faculty position as Assistant/Associate Professor- Clinical Relations Veterinarian. This faculty appointment supports the development, coordination, and oversight of the School's hybrid distributive clinical educational program. The Clinical Relations Veterinarian serves as the primary liaison between UMES and affiliated veterinary practices, specialty hospitals, industry partners, government agencies, and approved clinical training sites. The position ensures affiliates meet accreditation standards to provide high-quality experiential learning aligned with the School's mission and educational objectives.
Salary Information Salary range: $130,000 - $165,000 annually, commensurate with academic rank (Assistant or Associate Professor) and experience.

Essential Responsibilities • Develop, expand, and maintain a diverse network of affiliated clinical training sites. • Serve as primary liaison for clinical educators and external partners. • Conduct site evaluations to ensure compliance with AVMA COE accreditation standards. • Coordinate and maintain clinical affiliation agreements in collaboration with University administration. • Align clinical rotations with curricular goals and competency-based outcomes. • Assist with development and evaluation of clinical learning objectives and assessment tools. • Develop and implement preceptor training and orientation materials. • Collect and analyze student and preceptor feedback for continuous quality improvement. • Contribute to accreditation documentation and outcomes assessment reporting. • Participate in teaching, advising, committee service, and professional development activities. • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree from an AVMA-accredited (or equivalent) institution. • Minimum of five (5) years of clinical veterinary practice experience. • Experience working with veterinary students, interns, or externs. • Strong communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills. • Knowledge of veterinary clinical education standards and accreditation requirements.
Preferences (Qualifications) • Board certification in a recognized veterinary specialty or advanced degree. • Experience in academic veterinary medicine or distributive clinical education models. • Experience managing clinical affiliation agreements. • Administrative or leadership experience. • Participation in organized veterinary medicine at state and/or national level. • Familiarity with competency-based veterinary education and outcomes assessment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Experience in competency-based veterinary education and assessment design. • Strong leadership, organizational, and administrative skills. • Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. • Proficiency with instructional technologies and learning management systems. • Travel to affiliated clinical sites and the ability to work within clinical environments is required. • Must be able to perform duties typical of an academic and clinical setting.
Physical Demands • May require extended periods of standing, bending, stooping, sitting at desk. • May require lifting. • Requires communication with a variety of constituents externally and internally. • Requires operation of a variety of office equipment.
