Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) is seeking an Assistant Research Professor of Surgery with a focus on microbiology within the IUSM Department of Surgery.
Candidates should be prepared to assist in the mentorship of pediatric and surgical resident trainees as well as undergraduate and graduate students in various departments throughout the school of medicine. Participation on various committees within the university infrastructure is encouraged.
Candidates should have obtained their terminal PhD degree and be at the Assistant Professor level or higher. Research priorities within the laboratory surround diagnostic tools and novel therapies for necrotizing enterocolitis and intestinal ischemia. Candidates should have a strong background in microbiology and be able to lead a portfolio of projects surrounding intestinal bacteria and their impact on disease. Candidates should be open to learning basic wet lab techniques if they do not already have experience with assays such as ELISA, Western blotting, PCR, flow cytometry, 16S analysis, and CRISPR-Cas gene editing, among others. Candidates should also be willing to work with our mouse and piglet animal models, as well as be willing to collect and biobank human tissue samples from the operating rooms and pathology labs as needed.
This is a full-time opportunity. Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with experience.
