Summary
Under the supervision of the Animal Control Supervisor, the Assistant Animal Control Officer performs duties related to:
The work schedule of the Assistant Animal Control Officer may include shifts on weekends.
General Responsibilities
Picking up and disposing of dead animals. Catching strays. Transporting animals to the veterinarian for treatment or euthanasia. Cleaning and disinfecting Animal Control vehicles. Cleaning and maintaining the Animal Control Facility including runs and cages. Feeding and watering animals. Answering and responding to phone calls and email messages from the public. Removing rubbish and general housekeeping. Replenishing and maintaining stock. Providing treatment as directed by a veterinarian. Supporting the adoption of animals. Participating in the planning and running of the rabies clinic. Issuing summons as requested. Testifying in court as requested. Performing related duties as required.
Desirable Abilities
Knowledge and Skills
Experience working with animals in a professional setting. Knowledge of the procedures and practices of municipal animal control. Knowledge of animal hygiene standards and procedures. Experience providing basic medical treatments to animals. Experience providing service to the general public. Knowledge of laws ordinances and regulations related to animals. Ability to work as part of a team.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma GED or equivalent. Valid drivers license. Three 3 years professional experience handling animals such as in an animal control facility or a veterinary practice. Availability to work on weekends. Must pass a background check performed by the East Providence Police Department. Must pass a physical fitness and drug screening. Physical Requirements
Ability to handle animals of various sizes and dispositions. Ability to lift up-to fifty 50 pounds. Ability to work in confined spaces. Ability to work in various environments including exposure to different weather conditions.
