Job Description:

The University of Northern Iowa's School of Public Affairs and Service seeks applications for a temporary Assistant Adjunct Professor of Criminology & Criminal Justice to teach the online three-credit course CRIM 2500 Criminal Law and Procedure, for the fall semester beginning August 24, 2026. Responsibilities include teaching this class, which is currently scheduled as an in-person class from 11:00 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays (but could be moved to a fully online, asynchronous class if needed). The course covers the development of criminal law and procedure in the U.S., including criminal protections in the Bill of Rights and the 14th Amendment and protections of individual rights throughout all phases of the justice process, from investigation through trial and sentencing. The course emphasizes practical knowledge needed to work within the criminal justice system.

If moved to a fully online, asynchronous class, this position would be eligible to be performed remotely within the state of Iowa. Employees who elect remote work must comply with the requirements of our remote work policy and agreement.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or related field, or a J.D. required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience teaching at the university level, particularly experience creating a dynamic and engaging learning environment preferred. Candidates are encouraged to describe in their cover letter how their previous teaching experience (including any online teaching experience) and/or practical experience will lead to this kind of learning environment.
