We are looking for a ACT Team Certified Substance Abuse Counselor to join our team. The Substance Abuse Counselor will provide counsel and support to clients with substance abuse disorders, educate families/natural supports in the best ways to help in the recovery process, and collaborate with substance abuse providers to link clients to the appropriate level of care. Position works as part of the ACT team to wrap all necessary services and supports around clients and participates in the on-call rotation as assigned.
POSITION FUNCTIONS:
- Meets with clients to obtain personal information and medical histories and consults with other professionals to get a clear picture of the client's status and extent of problems.
- Designs a program of treatment and rehabilitation tailored to client's individual situation based on knowledge of alcohol and drug dependency and counseling and treatment methods.
- Uses a combination of individual and group counseling sessions to help clients and observe their attitudes and readiness to accept help and guidance.
- Serve as a substance abuse counselor to individuals, families, and groups.
- Assess and track a client's stages of change readiness and stages of recovery using knowledge of motivational interviewing and outreach techniques.
- Conduct comprehensive substance abuse assessments that examine the relationship between substance use and mental health; attend to members' critical substance issues providing interventions as appropriate.
- Participate in on-call rotation and provide crisis intervention as assigned by ACT Program Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Clinical Experience Required:
- Bachelor's degree with a concentration in psychology, sociology, or public health preferred.
- Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC), with IADC licensure preferred.
- Must be currently licensed by the state of Iowa per degree.
- Must have at least two years of documented supervised experience in providing substance abuse services and working with persons with co-occurring disorders.
Skills and Experience Preferred:
- Considerable knowledge of Substance Abuse principles and practices in appropriate specialty, mental health.
- Ability to assess, plan, provide, and evaluate substance abuse and mental health services.
- Knowledge of interviewing and counseling techniques, as well as knowledge of current developments in the field of Substance Abuse, including current complexities of the healthcare industry.
- Considerable interpersonal skills as well as oral and written communication skills.
Other Requirements:
- Must carry a valid driver's license and have current automobile insurance in accordance with Vera French policy.
- All Vera French employees that transport a Vera French client in his/her personal vehicle must also have a D-3 Chauffeur's License.
- Ability to pass pre-employment physical, drug, and alcohol screening
