About the role

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Assembly Finishing Technician to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for the final blending, grinding, and polishing of cast pump impellers. Using a variety of pneumatic (air) hand tools, you will remove excess material, establish precise geometric radii, and achieve specified surface finishes critical to fluid dynamics and pump efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Precision Grinding: Operate various air-powered grinding tools, die grinders, and polishing equipment to blend and finish internal and external impeller vanes.
  • Blueprint & Spec Compliance: Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and engineering specifications to ensure all contours, radii, and surface finishes meet strict tolerances.
  • Quality Inspection: Use precision measuring instruments (such as radius gauges, calipers, and surface roughness testers) to self-inspect work and ensure quality compliance.
  • Defect Removal: Identify and eliminate casting defects, burrs, sharp edges, and parting lines without compromising the structural integrity of the component.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine daily maintenance on pneumatic tools, including oiling, changing out abrasive wheels/burrs, and reporting mechanical issues.
  • Safety & Housekeeping: Maintain a clean, organized workstation and strictly adhere to all safety protocols, including the mandatory use of PPE (respirators, hearing protection, and face shields).
  • Impeller Balancing: Execute single- and two-plane balancing of impellers to meet specified balance quality grades and customer requirements. Analyze imbalance conditions and apply corrective grinding while maintaining geometric integrity of critical features.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience: 1-3 years of experience in metal finishing, deburring, or precision grinding within a foundry, aerospace, or heavy machinery manufacturing environment.
  • Tool Proficiency: Proven expertise using pneumatic die grinders, angle grinders, pencil grinders, and various abrasive media (carbide burrs, flap wheels, scotch-brite pads).
  • Technical Literacy: Ability to read blueprints and understand geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) related to radii and surface finishes (e.g., Ra values).
  • Dexterity & Detail: High level of manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and a keen eye for visual defects.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in welding, machining, or manufacturing is a plus.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, bend, and reach for extended periods (8+ hour shifts).
  • Capability to lift and maneuver components weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Strong grip strength and tolerance for prolonged exposure to hand-arm vibrations from pneumatic tools.
  • Ability to work comfortably in an environment with ambient noise and airborne dust (protective equipment provided).

What we offer you

  • Competitive Paid Time Off (3 weeks to start)
  • 12 Company Paid Holidays per year
  • Annual Bonus Program
  • Full Medical, Dental, and Vision benefits
  • Company Paid Short Term and Long Term Disability, Company Paid Life Insurance
  • 6% 401K or Roth Company Match with Immediate Vesting
  • Company Paid Retirement Security Contributions following 1 year of employment
  • Tuition Reimbursement/Educational Assistance
