    Asphalt Field Technician

    We are seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Asphalt Field Technician to support asphalt paving operations on active construction projects. The ideal candidate will assist in ensuring that asphalt materials are tested, placed, and compacted in accordance with project specifications and industry standards. This position works closely with field crews, project managers, and laboratory personnel to uphold quality, safety, and production goals.

    Key Responsibilities:
    • Conduct field sampling and testing of asphalt materials in accordance with AASHTO, ASTM, and applicable state specifications (e.g., SHA).
    • Operate and maintain assigned field vehicle (pickup truck dispatched from the Forestville plant).
    • Monitor asphalt placement and compaction to ensure compliance with project and agency requirements.
    • Accurately document and report field test results using tablets and/or written logs.
    • Communicate effectively with paving crews and supervisors to address quality control or production concerns.
    • Maintain testing equipment, tools, and safety gear in proper working condition.
    • Follow all company safety policies, PPE requirements, and environmental regulations.
    • Provide support with equipment setup, traffic control, and general labor tasks as needed.
    Qualifications:
    • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
    • Previous experience in asphalt testing, inspection, or paving operations strongly preferred.
    • Ability to read and interpret project specifications and technical documentation.
    • Valid driver's license with reliable transportation.
    • Basic construction math skills and familiarity with documentation procedures.
    • Ability to lift 50+ pounds, stand and walk for extended periods, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
    • Willingness to travel to multiple job sites throughout Maryland.
    • Flexibility to work overtime, evenings, or weekends during peak construction seasons.
    Work Environment:
    • Outdoor construction setting with exposure to traffic, dust, noise, and heavy equipment.
    • Ability to work extended hours in extreme weather conditions, including heat and cold.
