The paraprofessional role of librarian/ ASPEN manager for grades 5–8 typically combines library media management with administrative support through the Aspen Student Information System (SIS).
 
Core Responsibilities & Essential Functions
ASPEN SIS & Secretary Duties
  • Data Management: Input and maintain student records, including attendance, enrollment, and demographic updates within the Aspen Student Information System (SIS).
  • Administrative Support: Generate and reconcile monthly reports, manage incoming calls, and handle clerical tasks like filing and processing paperwork.
  • Budgeting: Monitor library/media center accounts and process purchase orders for new materials.

  • Library Management (Grades 5-8)
    • Information Literacy: Instruct students and teachers on how to find, evaluate, and use both physical and digital information resources.
    • Collection Maintenance: Curate, catalog, and reshelve library materials, while weeding out outdated resources to ensure the collection remains relevant for middle-grade students.
    • Student Supervision: Maintain an orderly and conducive learning environment in the library media center.
    • Literacy Promotion: Create engaging book displays and coordinate school-wide literacy initiatives or special events like book fairs.
  • Education Required:   High School Diploma or Equivalent and Two Years of Post Secondary Education or pass a Teaching Assistant Assessment on a District Level prior to employment.  
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating district-provided software, specifically the Aspen SIS and library circulation systems.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
