Intermediate District 287 is looking for American Sign Language Interpreters for the 2026-2027 school year with our Itinerant Services.
Intermediate District 287 serves students in grades K-12 as well as transition age students 18-22 years old from our 12 member districts in the west metro area. Our district offers a wide range of services and specialized programs primarily focused on setting Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that are designed to meet the diverse needs of our students. Our American Sign Language Interpreters serve a critical role in ensuring full communication access within the educational environment between Deaf and Hard of Hearing students who use sign language and their teacher, the students peers, and other school personnel. This position serves as an integral member of the students school-based team.

Experiences Integrated into this Position
Participation in district-wide and department-specific professional development, approximately 8 full days per year, targeted towards further development of expressive and receptive signing skills, educational interpreting, equity, educational access, and collaboration with teammates.
Professional development includes instruction and learning opportunities provided in American Sign Language, voice off, and in English.
Participation in a network of 15 interpreters who work across the K-12 and transition settings. This network provides opportunities to share knowledge, resources, provide support, and partnership.
Non-certified interpreters participate in weekly mentoring with the lead American Sign Language Interpreters.
Coaching, feedback, and support from a supervisor fluent in American Sign Language.
Walk-throughs and on-site connect points from a supervisor fluent in American Sign Language.
Opportunities may be available to work independently at a site with a small group of interpreters or serve as a float supporting needs across the district.
Position Details

Contracts and Benefits
Requirements
Must have completed a training program affiliated with a state-accredited educational institution AND hold one of the following:
• Pathway 1: An interpreter and/or transliterator certificate awarded by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), ORA general level proficiency certificate at level 3 awarded by the National Association of the Deaf (NAD), OR • Pathway 2: Graduate from an accredited Interpreter Training Program AND hold an Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) with a score of 3.5-3.9 • Pathway 3: Graduate from an accredited Interpreter Training Program AND hold a current 2-year provisional certificate AND willingness to participate in weekly mentoring
