ASL Direct Support Professional

Company Overview

We are a mission-driven human services organization dedicated to empowering individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) to live full, meaningful lives in their communities. Our team is made up of compassionate professionals who believe in dignity, respect, and person-centered support.

We proudly serve deaf and hard of hearing individuals and value American Sign Language (ASL) as a core part of how we connect, communicate, and advocate for the people we support.

The Opportunity

As an ASL Direct Support Professional, you will be a mentor, teacher, guide, and advocate for adults with I/DD, using ASL to ensure their voices are heard and their choices are respected. This is a hands-on role where you will help individuals build skills, access their community, and live as independently as possible.

If you have a passion for helping others, enjoy being active in the community, and want a role where your patience, empathy, and ASL skills make a daily impact, this position offers meaningful work, growth opportunities, and a supportive, team-based environment.

What You'll Do

  • Provide direct support to individuals with I/DD, using ASL to communicate, build trust, and foster independence.
  • Accompany individuals to community activities, appointments, and recreational outings, promoting inclusion and social engagement.
  • Assist with personal care and daily living tasks while maintaining dignity, respect, and safety at all times.
  • Support individuals in developing social skills and peer relationships through positive interactions and role modeling.
  • Collaborate with team members, families, and supervisors to follow support plans and share observations that improve care and outcomes.

What Success Looks Like

  • Within the first 36 months, you build strong, trusting relationships with the individuals you support, communicating confidently in ASL and understanding their preferences and goals.
  • Individuals you support increase their participation in community activities, social events, and recreational outings with your encouragement and guidance.
  • Daily routines, personal care, and appointments are completed safely, respectfully, and on time, with clear documentation and communication to the team.
  • You actively contribute ideas, feedback, and observations that help improve support plans and enhance the quality of life for the people you serve.

What We're Looking For

  • Ability to communicate in American Sign Language (ASL); you may be hearing, deaf, or hard of hearing.
  • Strong judgment, problem-solving skills, and the ability to stay calm and patient in a variety of situations.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a genuine passion for helping others and a desire to learn and grow.
  • At least 21 years old, with reliable transportation, a valid CA driver's license, and the ability to pass a background check; prior human services or caregiving experience is a plus.

Benefits

  • Health insurance, flexible schedules, and additional benefits for full-time positions
  • Full-time and part-time positions available
  • Day shifts with rotating weekend availability
