The Nurse Practitioner functions as a licensed registered nurse practitioner to provide all aspects of patient care, including diagnosis, treatment and consultation while maintaining and promoting the health of the patient. The Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for seeing patients in both inpatient and outpatient (PAT-C Clinic) situations.  The Nurse Practitioner will function as part of the team in support of Dunes Surgical Hospital’s (DSH) goals and objectives in order to promote efficient and effective patient care, also administers strategies to ensure optimal level of departmental customer service and communication efforts.

 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

1.               Nurse practitioner will involve delivering complete patient care and acting as a mentor to other personnel observing and supervising inexperienced personnel recognizing and researching issues while applying results of research to the enhancement of the nursing of patients.

2.               Develop a system of nursing by executing and introducing substitute solutions that will handle intricate system problems and/or patient care situations

3.               He/she performs the functions of deliberating on intricate nursing issues, reassessing complete patient care, acquiring tools to enhance the quality of patient nursing care and instituting change as required.

4.               Function as a clinical professional in the transfer of perioperative patient care

5.               Offer assistance by providing surgical care in relation with state, federal and facility requirements

6.               Combine research into the perioperative clinical set up through execution of evidence based practice

7.               Act as an agent of transformation to establish performance standard systems and to improve perioperative patient results

8.               Encourage patient care by working together with nursing staff in areas such as evaluating current practices, reviewing alternatives, deliberating with patient care administrators and offering assessment to personnel

9.               Generate special treatment plans following after patient examinations

10.            Give education to patients and their families on managing their situations.

11.            Ensures appropriate allocation of personnel to meet staffing and scheduling needs, assists subordinate leaders in resolving employee relations issues; may participate in the interviewing, selection hiring and training of staff.

12.            Managing and optimizing supplier performance, including continuous improvement, innovations, obsolescence and reduction in total cost of ownership.

13.            Preforms other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, COMPETENCIES, QUALIFICATIONS and EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

1.     Master’s degree from an accredited nursing program.

2.     Must have RN licensure in the state of South Dakota or a compact party state and be board certified.

3.     Must have prescriptive authorization

4.     Knowledge of computer-based data management programs and information systems, as well as medical records and point-of-interview technology.

5.     Ability to communicate effectively, in verbal and written form, medical partners at various levels, patients, family members, physicians and representatives of the community.

6.     Sound understanding of all federal and state regulations including HIPAA and OSHA.

7.     Experience providing primary care as a family nurse practitioner.

8.     Significant complex problem solving skills

9.     Outstanding ability to care for others and take up leadership functions in areas related to healthcare.

10.  Ethical Conduct

11.  Will serve as a member of the CQC committee

12.  Responds to STAT calls to assist staff.

13.  Provides clinical expertise in medical management, crisis, and behavior management techniques.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

1.     Will be required to lift charts frequently requiring the ability to lift 50 pounds.

2.     Must be able to exert at least 50 pounds of force moving patients

3.     Frequent standing, bending and stooping involved.

4.     Must possess and demonstrate critical thinking skills.

5.     Dexterity: Frequent repetitive motion of hands/wrist involved.

6.     Will be working in a clean, well-lighted area

7.     May be required to deal with unpleasant environmental situations resulting from patient care or patient activity.

8.     Hazards and Risks: Direct patient contact with possible exposure to communicable diseases, exposure to radiation and CRT.
