Location Description:
Michael Foods, Inc. located in Gaylord, Minnesota is Minnesota's Healthy Heartland! Gaylord is located in south central Minnesota about an hour west of the Twin Cities and 35 minutes from Mankato, Hutchinson, and New Ulm. As the County Seat, Gaylord is the "Hub of Sibley County." Our location produces liquid egg, hardcook egg, and precooked egg such as scrambled, patties and omelets.
Responsibilities:
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Area Supervisor (AS) is directly responsible for people and the results of an area. The (AS) is responsible for evaluating all losses and developing plans to systematically eliminate those losses. The (AS) directly coaches front line teams and oversees employees in the area and has 24/7 accountability across all shifts in an area of responsibility. The (AS) will spend 60-80% of their time on the floor. The (AS) will lead the team in daily organization and decision making to ensure delivery of all key business results – utilizing MOS to ensure Standard Daily Process (SDP) execution and continuous loss elimination.
The (AS) has the responsibility to always comply with Safety work rules as well as an obligation to reinforce Safety as a core value. Ensures that all policies, procedures, and activities, related to Food Safety & Quality, are followed, and complied with to reduce product and process variability.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Strategic Planning & Objective Setting
- Creates, develops, and executes strategic plans to hit plant goals and objectives set by the Site.
- Assess performance vs. Plan; Prioritizes top losses for the year and creates plan to deliver plant goals and objectives
- Develop and execute loss analysis, glidepath, and 90-day improvement plans for the area.
- Creates/Maintains visual Check, Act, Plan,Do (CAPD) Board for their area to visualize plan and performance.
- Drive (CAPD) improvement cycles for business results and capability building.
- Lead Team meetings to drive strategy forward
- Owns the budget and delivers year over year improvement for their area.
- Understand and Improve Team Capability
- The (AS) must ensure the right skills and crewing to be flexible across the area as business requires (initiatives, size/pack changes, training, breakdowns, meetings, etc.)
- Ensure the team is trained, qualified and capable of doing their jobs.
- Set clear, comprehensive expectations and provide meaningful, timely feedback about performance. The (AS) should train and coach their people to continuously improve their performance and business results.
- The (AS) is responsible to arrange training and qualification for new team members for their area of responsibility, passing any relevant records along to HR.
- Provide feedback to the site leadership team to ensure relevant support or reward to recognize key contributors in area results.
- Regularly communicate with the team about their performance in 1:1
- Address any individual performance issues within the team via the 1:1 system and HR when needed.
- Identify skill gaps in front line team members
- Trains, disciplines (with advice of HR), and gives timely performance appraisals to current shift leads and front line production teams. Document notable items in personnel file.
- Continuous Improvement of Systems and Results
- Lead/facilitate/participate in continuous improvement events.
- Support loss analysis/elimination. Solve process instability problems.
- Coach necessity and use of Problem Solving Tools
- Drive the improvement in daily execution by setting a personal example and providing daily feedback, coaching and calibration of their team on what is on track and what needs improvement.
- Develop Shift Leaders and relevant team to ensure the area is maintained at base condition and results are on track to deliver the plant goals.
- Possess an in-depth understanding of issues in the area using data analysis and benchmarking within and outside the site to systematically resolve issues and improve results.
- Coach the use of Standard Daily Processes (SDP) to eliminate non-value added work.
- Owns and leads Operator Care work processes and step execution.
- MOS Owner- Sets direction for daily action planning to ensure area performance
- Develops daily plan, focusing on stops reduction, loss elimination, and operator coaching.
- Coach team members on importance of adherence to standards
- CIL Owner- Execute and coach process as a part of Operator Care to support/maintain base condition of equipment

Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
•Bachelor’s degree or 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment
•Experience with leading teams in a high paced manufacturing environment.
•Experience with continuous improvement processes (RCA, 5S, SMED, CAPD, Centerlines)
•Collaboration with all levels of employees.
•Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
•Data comprehension and evaluation concerning process improvements, shrink reduction, budgetary shortfall/surplus, etc.
