POSITION SUMMARY

The Area Operations Manager, HVAC, reporting to the Area General Manager, is responsible for the overall financial and operational performance of the assigned area. This role serves as a manager of managers, with accountability for budget delivery, forecasting, cash management, and operational execution across multiple locations. The position provides leadership oversight for Service Managers, Project Managers, Project Estimators, and collaborates closely with the Area Operations Support Manager. The Area Operations Manager acts as an escalation point for complex operational and client matters and ensures consistent execution of company policies, procedures, and performance standards. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Own full operational and financial performance of the area, including P&L accountability, budgets, forecasts, reporting, and cash management.
  • Serve as a manager of managers, providing leadership, coaching, and accountability for Service Managers, Project Managers, and Estimators.
  • Analyze operational and financial reports, identify trends, and use data-driven insights to improve margin performance and operational efficiency.
  • Develop and implement cost-control measures, service standards, and operational improvements aligned with contract and company requirements.
  • Ensure consistent application of company policies, procedures, programs, and systems across all locations.
  • Partner with the Area Operations Support Manager to improve dispatch, coordination, workflow efficiency, and overall client experience through clear and timely communication.
  • Act as an escalation point for client issues, internal operational challenges, and cross-functional problem resolution.
  • Provide operational support to sales efforts, including collaboration with estimators and sales teams to drive growth and margin improvement.
  • Oversee safety compliance, inspections, quality control initiatives, and inventory management of tools, equipment, and supplies.
  • Lead performance management activities, including work assignment direction, employee evaluations, corrective action, and disciplinary processes in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Support special projects and organizational initiatives as assigned by the Area General Manager.
  • Travel regularly between assigned locations to support teams, clients, and operational needs. 

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum five (5) years of HVAC management experience, with demonstrated experience managing people, financials, and operational performance (management experience emphasized over total technical tenure).
  • Proven experience functioning as a manager of managers within a multi-location or complex operational environment.
  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and operational reporting; ability to quickly assess and improve financial performance.
  • In-depth working knowledge of HVAC and mechanical service operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in large, complex markets with high client expectations.
  • Bachelor’s Degree strongly preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and conflict management skills with the ability to engage internal teams and external clients effectively.
  • Detail-oriented, highly organized, and capable of managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with standard business software (MS Word, Excel, Outlook) and operational systems.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record; ability to travel up to 50% across assigned locations.
  • Flexibility to work non-standard schedules as business needs require.
