Waggoner Engineering, Inc. is hiring an Area Manager - Central Alabama for our Birmingham, AL office to lead operations, drive growth, and develop high-performing teams within the Central Alabama market. This role is responsible for overall business performance, client relationships, financial oversight, and strategic execution across the region.
Your Primary Responsibilities will include
Leadership & Strategy
Provide day-to-day leadership aligned with company mission and core values
Develop and execute regional growth strategies aligned with company objectives
Create and implement strategic plans to track KPIs and performance metrics
Partner with senior leadership to strengthen operational structure and processes
Business Development & Client Leadership
Drive revenue growth and profitability within the assigned market
Serve as lead client account manager for key clients and major projects
Represent the firm with integrity in client, community, and industry settings
Identify and pursue new business opportunities
Financial & Operational Management
Oversee regional P&L, project budgets, and financial performance
Monitor cash flow and ensure timely client payments
Support financial reporting and proactively address efficiency gaps
Ensure operational controls, reporting procedures, and performance standards are met
Team & Talent Development
Lead, mentor, and develop Project Managers and Client Account Managers
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and high performance
Partner with HR and executive leadership on workforce planning and talent development
Recruit, train, and develop future leaders
Additional Duties
Supervises Project Managers and Client Account Managers within the assigned region
Regular travel, including overnight travel, is required
Position may require extended hours to meet business objectives
What you'll need
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
10+ years of operating management experience in a consulting engineering environment, with 5+ years in senior management preferred.
Proven success in business development and revenue growth
Strong financial management and project oversight experience
Strategic thinker with strong business and financial acumen
Trusted client advisor with exceptional relationship-building skills
Proven leader who motivates and develops high-performing teams
Operationally strong with the ability to drive measurable results
Adaptable and resourceful in a fast-paced environment
