  • Utilize evidence based practice to assist new campus nurses as they transition to independent school nursing practice. Teach, support and serve as a role model for new staff nurses to enhance the delivery of health services provided to students, improve student achievement and support the work of campuses.
  • Explain, demonstrate, and guide new staff to independently perform essential nursing objectives and tasks as outlined in the School Nurse Clinical Development Program, department procedures and board policy.
  • Guide the performance and professional growth of new staff by mentoring best practices, serving as a role model, providing leadership and demonstrating a commitment to excellence.
  • Utilize clinical competency skill checklist to communicate expectations regarding performance, policy and department procedures.
  • Complete and submit visit documentation to provide job specific feedback and identify any areas of improvement.
  • Support the work of campuses to provide health services in the absence of the assigned nurse.
  • Serve as a certified instructor for CPR/AED courses and Texas Department of State Health Services certified trainer in vision and hearing screening.
  • Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned.

  • Required: Bachelor''s Degree from an accredited university in Nursing (Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN); current license to practice nursing in the State of Texas as a Registered Nurse; current certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation/AED; Texas Department of State and Health certification in vision and hearing (recertification as required); certified as The Border Health Office, University of Texas-Pan American, Texas Risk Assessment for Type 2 Diabetes in Children screener
  • Preferred: Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or related field; National School Nurse Certification (NCSN)
