Job Title: Architectural Project Manager
Job Description
This role offers an opportunity for an experienced Architectural Project Manager to lead multi-family housing projects from concept through construction. You will collaborate closely with development teams, builders, property managers, and specialized consultants to deliver high-quality, affordable housing. The position combines design leadership, project management, and field coordination in a highly collaborative, flexible, and supportive environment with strong benefits and performance-based bonuses.
Responsibilities
- Lead architectural projects for multi-family and affordable housing developments from preliminary design through construction completion.
- Create preliminary and conceptual designs, including site plans, building layouts, elevations, and amenity concepts that align with project goals and budgets.
- Research, interpret, and apply zoning codes and regulatory requirements at the city, county, and state levels.
- Prepare thorough and complete construction documentation packages that support permitting, bidding, and construction.
- Manage the plan review process, including coordinating with authorities having jurisdiction and obtaining building permits and approvals from outside funding agencies.
- Oversee project production and construction activities to ensure work complies with approved building plans, project deadlines, and budget constraints.
- Conduct monthly on-site observations to verify construction quality, progress, and compliance with design intent.
- Communicate clearly and consistently with development teams, project consultant teams, and construction teams to resolve issues and keep projects on track.
- Coordinate and lead project meetings, ensuring that design decisions, schedules, and responsibilities are clearly defined and documented.
- Support and mentor team members by providing guidance on design standards, documentation quality, and best practices in project delivery.
- Travel to 1-3 client sites once a month, typically for same-day or occasional overnight trips, to support project coordination and site observation.
- Contribute to a collaborative team culture by sharing ideas openly, participating in design discussions, and supporting cross-functional project work.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Architectural Technology.
- 5-8 years of professional architectural work experience, including at least 2 years of project management experience.
- Demonstrated experience in multi-family housing projects.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit for design and documentation.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite for presentations and visual communication.
- Strong knowledge of building codes and accessibility design requirements.
- Proven ability to manage the production and construction phases of a project from start to finish.
- Project management experience, including scheduling, coordination, and budget awareness.
- Ability to travel to 1-3 client sites once a month for site visits and project meetings.
- Self-motivated work style with strong leadership capabilities and the ability to take ownership of project outcomes.
- Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills for coordinating with internal teams and external partners.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with affordable housing and low-income housing tax credits (LIHTC) is a plus.
- Experience in affordable housing and multi-family developments beyond minimum requirements is highly valued.
- Previous experience coordinating with outside funding agencies and regulatory bodies is beneficial.
- Interest in and passion for providing families with high-quality, affordable housing options.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in both design and documentation.
