Are you a confident aquatics leader who thrives in an outdoor, youth-focused environment? Join Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson as our Aquatics Director and take the lead in creating a safe, fun, and skill-building waterfront experience for campers and staff alike.

In this leadership role, you’ll oversee all waterfront and pool operations, mentor lifeguard staff, and ensure every camper builds confidence in and around the water—all while spending your summer in a beautiful camp setting.

️ What You’ll Do

  • Lead Waterfront Operations: Plan, organize, and supervise all waterfront and pool activities in alignment with safety and compliance standards
  • Train & Mentor Staff: Facilitate pre-camp training and provide ongoing coaching to lifeguards and waterfront team members
  • Ensure Safety & Compliance: Enforce standards set by Girl Scouts of the USA, the American Camp Association, and the New York State Department of Health
  • Assess & Instruct Campers: Conduct swim evaluations and provide instruction in water safety, swimming, boating, and canoeing (WSI certified)
  • Manage Equipment & Facilities: Oversee maintenance and safe use of boats, canoes, and lifesaving equipment; coordinate repairs as needed
  • Maintain Documentation: Keep accurate records including certifications, water testing logs, and incident reports
  • Collaborate Across Camp: Partner with leadership to integrate aquatics into broader camp programming
  • Model Leadership: Create a positive, engaging environment while maintaining professionalism and appropriate boundaries with campers

What You Bring

  • Must be 21+ years old and pass a background check
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Current Certifications Required:
    • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) OR Lifeguard Training + Waterfront Lifeguard
    • CPR for the Professional Rescuer (or equivalent)
    • Lifeguard Management (in-person testing certification)
  • Minimum 3 seasons of waterfront experience
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team development skills
  • Experience working with children (camp or youth programs preferred)
  • Willingness to complete aquatics management training if not WSI certified

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and remain active throughout the day
  • Lift and carry 15+ lbs
  • Navigate uneven terrain and outdoor environments
  • Comfortable working in all weather conditions and being in/around water for long durations
