Reports to: Senior Aquatic Director/Executive Director POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Serves as a member of the Central YMCA Leadership Team and in coordination with the Senior Aquatic Director, directs and supervises staff, program activities and facilities to meet the needs of YMCA members and the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Develops, organizes and implements high quality YMCA aquatic programs including swim lessons, water fitness, swim team, rentals, and special events as well as oversee all aquatic staff. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Serves on the Central YMCA Leadership Team and attends Team Leader in-services, meetings, and planning sessions. Participates in planning and delivery of Association and/or Branch special events, acts as Director on Duty for building coverage on assigned nights and/or weekends.
- PROGRAM MANAGEMENT—Develops, implements, and manages operating plans to promote program and/or membership growth for the YMCA. Measures
- progress against strategic goals and ensures continuous improvement. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs. Compiles reports for funders/grants and YUSA.
- TALENT MANAGEMENT—Recruits, hires, on-boards, trains, develops, schedules, engages, directs, and recognizes staff and volunteers as needed. Ensures that staff maintain certifications; maintain certification, in-service and training reports. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops methods to motivate staff. Leads and develops monthly and quarterly departmental in-services.
- FACILITY MANAGEMENT—Coordinates use of facilities for program activities; ensures a safe, clean, and productive environment. Creates a culture of cleanliness with department staff. Assures the cleanliness of the aquatic areas and maintenance of equipment. Records and reports all needed maintenance or repairs; repair as directed.
- RISK MANAGEMENT—Oversees program operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations and procedures, including Child Abuse Prevention, emergencies, medical, facility use, aquatic safety, and disciplinary situations; completes and follows up on Incident Reports.
- FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT—Prepares and manages program budget to ensure revenue/expense and program services goals are achieved. Manages Y’s resources responsibly and sustains the Y’s non-profit business model to ensure revenue/expense and program services goals are achieved. Completes variance reports.
- COLLABORATION—Collaborates with Directors to increase participation and provide additional service to meet community needs. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Lead the Neptune Parent Committee.
- MEMBERSHIP RECRUITMENT & RETENTION—Assists in recruiting and engaging new members. Builds relationships with and among members, creates a supportive community environment and connects members to the YMCA’s cause. Maintains retention through high quality staff, programs & services, and facility maintenance and cleanliness.
- MEMBER SERVICE & ENGAGEMENT—Act intentionally to connect people with the Y cause through our service and engagement principles; Welcome, Connect, Support, Invite; leads staff to create a culture of service and engagement. Creates an atmosphere of friendship, achievement, and belonging in programs and department.
- MISSION & CAUSE ADVANCEMENT—Leads assigned responsibilities in YMCA fund raising activities and special events; recruits and engages volunteers; secures funding through grants and foundations.
- MARKETING –Works with Marketing Team in the marketing and distribution of YMCA branded program information and collateral. Follows all marketing procedures and policies.
- RELATIONSHIP BUILDING— Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility. Responds to all inquiries, emails, messages and complaints in a timely manner.

- Two years related experience preferred.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

- Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills and ability to adapt to new software programs.
- Typical requirements within 30 days of hire include completion of: New Staff Orientation, Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff, Bloodborne Pathogens, Anti-Harassment for Supervisors, CPR-Pro/BLS, First Aid, Oxygen Administration, and YMCA Leader certification.
- Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications and maintenance of outside certification(s), including Lifeguard, Swim Instructor, Water Fitness Instructor, Lifeguard Instructor, Swim Lesson Instructor Trainer at first available offering.
- Completion of YMCA of Youngstown Leadership Development Program required within first year
- Completion of YMCA Team Leader certification required within two years
