Position: Applications & Testing Specialist
Location: Harrisburg, SD | RMS Roller-Grinder
Compensation: $24.00 - $28.00/hour depending on experience!
If you enjoy hands-on work, solving real-world problems, and seeing your work directly impact customers, this is not your typical lab role.
At RMS Roller-Grinder, our Test Labis more than a workspace. It is where customer challenges turn into real solutions. As we grow, we are looking for an Applications & Testing Specialist who can take ownership, thrive on independence, and take pride in running a clean, high-performing operation.
Are You the Right Fit?
Do you enjoy working with machinery and figuring out how things work? Are you equally comfortable analyzing data, identifying trends, and turning results into practical recommendations?
We're looking for someone who combines a mechanical mindset with analytical thinking. The ideal candidate enjoys rolling up their sleeves to work with equipment, but also has the curiosity to investigate results, solve problems, and communicate findings in a way that helps customers and team members make informed decisions.
You may be a great fit if you:
- Naturally troubleshoot problems and look for root causes.
- Enjoy both hands-on mechanical work and data-driven decision making.
- Can explain technical information in a clear, easy-to-understand manner.
- Take ownership of your work and pride in delivering accurate results.
- Adapt quickly when priorities shift and multiple projects need attention.
- Enjoy collaborating with customers and internal teams to find solutions.
If that sounds like you, we'd love to talk.
What You will Do
You will be the go-to expert running our Test Lab, owning everything from equipment performance to customer testing insights.
Keep the Lab Running at Its Best
- Maintain a clean, organized, customer-ready lab environment.
- Perform maintenance, repairs, calibrations, and component changeouts on roller mills and lab equipment.
- Manage inventory of supplies, tools, and spare parts.
Turn Materials into Meaningful Insights
- Run test grinds and application tests on a wide variety of materials.
- Conduct sampling and quality verification testing.
- Measure roll corrugations and monitor wear trends to recommend service needs.
Own the Testing Process
- Manage and prioritize the testing schedule to meet customer timelines.
- Accurately document and organize all test data.
- Analyze how materials perform and determine optimal machine settings.
- Deliver clear, actionable test reports with recommendations and operating parameters.
Support Customers & Internal Teams
- Partner with sales and engineering to provide technical insights.
- Present testing results and recommendations in a clear, understandable manner to customers, sales, engineering, and other internal stakeholders.
- Contribute to customer conversations with real data and practical recommendations.
- Occasionally travel to customer sites, industry events, or field locations to support testing, troubleshooting, and application development efforts.
