Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Applications Engineer to support advanced CNC machining solutions within a leading machine tooling and manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for developing, validating, and optimizing machining processes for complex customer components utilizing multi-axis CNC machine tools. The Applications Engineer will play a critical role in both pre-sale and post-sale activities, including process development, cycle time analysis, fixture design, CNC programming, tooling optimization, and customer training.

This position requires strong technical expertise in CNC machining, CAM programming, manufacturing processes, and customer-facing engineering support. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated problem solver with excellent communication skills and a passion for advanced manufacturing technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze customer components and manufacturing requirements to develop optimized CNC machining processes.
• Create detailed machining time studies and cycle time estimates to support technical sales proposals.
• Design work holding fixtures and process-related tooling using CAD software.
• Develop and optimize CNC programs utilizing CAM software for multi-axis machine tools.
• Research and implement advanced toolpath strategies, machining techniques, and cutting tool technologies.
• Evaluate machining performance and recommend process improvements to increase efficiency and quality.
• Support machine demonstrations, customer trials, and process validation activities.
• Provide customer training on machining processes, programming techniques, and machine operation best practices.
• Collaborate with engineering, sales, manufacturing, and customer teams to ensure successful project execution.
• Maintain technical documentation, process records, and application support materials.
• Travel domestically and internationally as required to support customer installations, training, and application development.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Experience developing CNC machining processes and programming multi-axis CNC machine tools.
• Strong knowledge of CAM software and advanced machining practices.
• Experience applying cutting tools, tooling strategies, cutting conditions, and fixture design principles.
• Proficiency with CAD software, preferably including CATIA, SolidWorks, and/or AutoCAD.
• Ability to troubleshoot machining processes and optimize production performance.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to build customer confidence through technical expertise and professional engagement.
• Proven ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within cross-functional teams.
• Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
• Must maintain a professional appearance and conduct while representing the organization.
• U.S. Citizenship or valid Permanent Resident status required.
• Ability to travel throughout the United States and internationally for extended periods as business needs require.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with multiple CAM software platforms.
• Background supporting machine tool builders, aerospace manufacturing, heavy industrial machining, or precision manufacturing environments.
• Experience with advanced machining strategies for large-scale or complex components.
• Familiarity with emerging machining technologies, cutting tool development, and process innovation.

Location & Travel Requirements

• Rockford, IL
• Travel required throughout the United States and internationally.
• Position may require extended periods at customer facilities, manufacturing sites, and technical support locations.

Compensation & Benefits

• $80,000 - $130,000 compensation package commensurate with experience.
