Primary Purpose:
Provide leadership and oversight for the district''s commercial kitchen equipment maintenance program by supervising the Appliance Specialist, coordinating repairs and preventive maintenance, and ensuring all food service equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with manufacturer specifications and applicable health and safety regulations.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education/Certification:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Valid Texas Driver''s License (or ability to obtain)
- EPA Certification preferred
- Manufacturer or commercial food service equipment certifications preferred
Minimum Experience:
- Five (5) years of experience repairing commercial kitchen and food service equipment
- Two (2) years of supervisory or lead experience preferred
Special Knowledge and Skills:
- Extensive knowledge of commercial kitchen equipment, including ovens, steamers, dishwashers, warmers, refrigerators, freezers, ice machines, mixers, and serving line equipment
- Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, gas, and mechanical systems related to commercial appliances
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and manufacturer specifications
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and equipment lifecycle management
- Ability to diagnose complex equipment failures and determine appropriate corrective actions
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to prioritize work orders and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Knowledge of applicable OSHA, health department, and safety regulations
- Ability to train, mentor, and evaluate assigned personnel
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Supervise the daily activities of the Appliance Specialist and assign work orders based on priority and operational needs.
- Coordinate installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial kitchen and food service equipment throughout the district.
- Develop and oversee preventive maintenance schedules to maximize equipment reliability and service life.
- Inspect completed work to ensure repairs meet district standards and manufacturer specifications.
- Assist with diagnosing and repairing complex equipment failures as needed.
- Maintain inventory of repair parts, tools, and equipment while monitoring supply levels.
- Coordinate with Child Nutrition Services, vendors, and manufacturers regarding equipment repairs, warranty issues, and replacement recommendations.
- Assist in preparing equipment replacement plans and budget recommendations.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, health codes, and district policies.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, inspections, and repair documentation.
- Respond to emergency equipment failures that impact campus food service operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EQUIPMENT USED:
Commercial food service equipment, refrigeration systems, ovens, steamers, dishwashers, ice machines, electrical testing equipment, multimeters, refrigeration gauges, hand and power tools, ladders, lifts, and standard maintenance equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical Demands:
Frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, reaching, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling equipment and materials weighing over 50 pounds. Work may require awkward positions, climbing ladders, and responding to emergency service calls. Responsibilities of the position may require irregular work hours.
Environment:
Work inside commercial kitchens, mechanical rooms, warehouses, and other district facilities. Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, electrical systems, refrigeration equipment, gas appliances, moving mechanical parts, cleaning chemicals, and confined spaces. Occasional outdoor work and travel between district facilities.
