Job Summary:

The APC Technician/Data Analyst I provides hands-on technical support for INIT’s Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) solutions, including hardware, software, networking, and communications technologies. This role works directly with customers to troubleshoot, maintain, and support transit technology systems while coordinating projects, documentation, and system improvements to ensure reliable operations.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Create project BOM’s and coordinate shipments based on customer purchase request. 
  • Must perform quality queries and analyze customer data.
  • Must have hands-on experience with electronics, computer systems, wireless communications, networking and software applications. 
  • Must have very good communication skills, expect to work collaboratively in a team environment and possess qualities such as assertiveness, motivation and decision making. 
  • Work closely with various customer departments and act as a single point of contact. 
  • Ensure tasks are completed on time, open issues are resolved in a timely manner, escalate issues as appropriate. 
  • Report status to project manager and provide regular, informal performance feedback to immediate Supervisor about maintenance support by customer. 
  • Troubleshooting, component diagnostics, and technical maintenance of equipment. 
  • Perform quality control on work performed within the team. 
  • Oversee, create, and update standard customer service documents. This includes but is not limited to Preventive Maintenance checklist, Acceptance Test Procedures, troubleshooting documentation and a knowledge base review specific to the customer you service.
  • Some work will take place in Transit Authority garages.  Work hours may vary depending on Transit Authority needs. This could include off-hour support as well.
  • Candidates may work on-site at multiple locations throughout North America. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related technical field.
  • Previous experience supporting hardware and software systems in a field service or customer support environment.
  • Experience with networking, wireless communications, and IP-based technologies.
  • Familiarity with Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), CAD/AVL, fare collection systems, passenger information systems, or other transit technologies.
  • Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation, including standard operating procedures, preventive maintenance checklists, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Experience coordinating projects, managing Bills of Materials (BOMs), or supporting equipment deployments.
  • Knowledge of SQL or experience performing data queries and analysis.
  • Experience working directly with customers in a technical support or implementation role.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, including obtaining or maintaining a valid passport.
  • Experience working independently in field environments while effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Work Environment and Travel:

  • Hybrid work environment consisting of office (in Chesapeake, Virginia), customer site, and field service responsibilities.
  • Frequent work in transit authority facilities, including bus garages, maintenance shops, operations centers, and administrative offices.
  • Regular interaction with customers, project teams, and cross-functional departments in a collaborative environment.
  • Requires occasional lifting, installation, and handling of computer, networking, and electronic equipment.
  • Work schedules may vary to accommodate customer operational needs, including occasional evenings, weekends, or off-hours support.
  • Travel to customer locations throughout North America is required, with occasional international travel for training and project support.
  • Requires the ability to work independently in the field while maintaining effective communication with remote team members and project stakeholders.

Compensation:

The annual salary range for this position is $58,000 -$65,000, depending on experience.
