AP/CP Pathologist Hospital-Based Practice

We are seeking a Board-Certified AP/CP Pathologist to join our growing hospital-based practice in Dothan, Alabama. This position offers the autonomy of an independent hospital role with the strong backing of a collaborative, experienced pathology team.
The position is based at a 300-bed hospital with a robust oncology program and high cancer case volume, providing exposure to a wide range of complex and challenging pathology cases. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated physician who values high-quality practice standards, professional support, and meaningful clinical impact.
What You Will Do
  • Sign out a wide range of anatomic pathology cases
  • Provide frozen section coverage
  • Oversee clinical laboratory operations and quality
  • Collaborate with a dedicated onsite Pathologists' Assistant (majority of grossing performed by PA)
  • Access remote digital pathology support and expert consultation
  • Participate in tumor boards, hospital committees, and multidisciplinary meetings
  • Maintain compliance with CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, and hospital standards
Case Volume & Practice Scope
The practice supports a high-volume hospital laboratory, including approximately:
  • 11,000 surgical pathology cases annually
  • 2,700 cytology cases
  • 800 blood smears
  • 10 peripheral blood cases
The hospital has a strong oncology program, resulting in a significant number of cancer and complex diagnostic cases across multiple subspecialties.
What We Are Looking For
  • Board certification in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (AP/CP)
  • Subspecialty training preferred but not required, including but not limited to:
    • Surgical Pathology
    • Cytopathology
    • Breast Pathology
    • Lung Pathology
    • Gastrointestinal (GI) Pathology
    • Genitourinary (GU) Pathology
  • Eligibility for Alabama medical licensure
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to practice independently in a hospital-based setting
  • Commitment to quality, compliance, and collaborative care
