About the Job
Under the direction of a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, contributes to the health and wellbeing of patients by delivering outstanding, high quality veterinary technician services that meet the standards of the MVMA and MAVT as well as VMC standards and protocols. Competently performs radiologic diagnostic services such as Computed Tomography, Nuclear Scintigraphy, Ultrasound, and Radioiodine therapy. Competently assists Clinicians and other medical staff members with veterinary medical procedures. This will include and is not but are not limited to: radiography, surgical assisting, administering treatments, animal nursing, animal restraint and handling, clinical research, etc. within the assigned service area as well as across functions as needed. Performs at a higher level of veterinary technical expertise in the service area assigned, assisting with complex cases both independently and with some minimal supervision. Additional duties will include: Maintaining facilities according to VMC cleanliness standards and ordering and/or stocking supplies, accurate record keeping, assisting with training of veterinary technical students and other duties as assigned. The specific duties and work schedule will vary based on current needs.
Essential Functions

Perform sedation monitoring on patients undergoing medical imaging studies
Cross train in all medical imaging procedures and diagnostics
With oversight by a DVM, applies clinical job knowledge and competence to treatment, and care.
Provide excellent service to DVM's and medical teams to support quality patient care.
Facilitate open communication and teamwork among clinical care team members (DVM's students, veterinary technicians, etc.) in support of positive patient outcomes and excellent patient care.
Assist with quality control of radiographic equipment. Responsible for notifying appropriate repair personnel for equipment problems. Ensures equipment is clean and in working order.
Must be able to restrain and handle animals and/or assist with animal restraint and handling.
Assists with Medical Imaging office duties as needed.
Under the direction of DVM applies clinical job knowledge and competence to the management of the patient.
Delivers outstanding customer service including (for example) greeting and receiving patients and clients in a professional, caring and courteous manner, answering phone calls promptly, responding to clients, co-workers, and medical staff needs and requests, redirecting calls, etc.
Answers questions and explains or demonstrates procedures and equipment for clients, residents, interns, senior veterinary students, and technician students; assists with teaching labs.
Performs record-keeping tasks related to medical procedures, including recording of: procedures completed, supplies used, patient status, client communication, census information, etc.
Understands, is proficient in, and can teach proper use of diagnostic/medical equipment used in area of service.
Maintains service area schedule.
Responsible for ensuring that all services and supplies are charged according to the hospital fee schedule.
Must adhere to VMC safety and infection control policies and procedures.
Must have the ability to work in a clinical setting.
Other Functions
Assists in other service areas; develops skills that are cross functional and uses time efficiently including helping other areas of the hospital
Participates in daily rounds when indicated
Other duties as assigned by Supervisor, Clinician, or Director
