Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Curator of Animals, is responsible for the daily husbandry and care of the animal collection, monitoring animal health, keeping accurate records, maintaining the condition of animal enclosures, interaction with zoo visitors including presenting wildlife during informal talks.

Experience: Four (4) years of increasing responsibility performing duties similar to those listed within the job description. Education: High school graduate. AA or BS degree in Zoology, Biology, Wildlife Management or related discipline is preferred. A scanner to upload required documents is available in the Human Resources office located at 1330 Truxtun Ave., Bakersfield, CA 93301. • The documents will be scanned and emailed to the candidate. Examinations will be weighted 30% for written and 70% for oral. Candidates must obtain a composite score of 70% or better to qualify for the eligibility list. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Passage of a pre-employment medical assessment and current tetanus shot. Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operator's license. Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter, as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act. This position has a probationary period of six months or 130 days in paid service, whichever is longer.
