This position will function as part of the KSU Beef Stocker Unit and also the Beef Cattle Research Center, by conducting research and basic maintenance operations with undergraduate and graduate students related to stocker cattle health and beef cattle nutrition management.

About Us

The Department of Animal Sciences and Industry (ASI) serves students, livestock producers and the animal and food industries through teaching, research and education. The Dept. of ASI prepares students for careers in the animal and food industries.

The curriculum includes the study of nutrition, reproduction, genetics, behavior, meat science and food science with production, management, and agribusiness skills. Students are given sound professional and scientific skills, a broad education and experience for contributing to our communities across the nation and abroad. Students receive excellent advisement and mentorship from faculty and professional staff and participate in extracurricular activities to develop skills to become industry leaders.

Worksite Description

This position is On-site.

All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

• Requires a bachelor's degree
• Three years of relevant experience.
• Valid driver's license
Education beyond the minimum degree requirement may count toward required experience if deemed relevant by the hiring manager. The degree requirement ensures candidates possess the scientific, regulatory and leadership competencies essential for managing complex animal care operations, research protocols and compliance with federal animal welfare standards. These competencies are typically developed and rigorously validated only through the comprehensive curriculum and intensive experiential learning inherent in a formal degree program.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Demonstrated ability to work with cattle and to conduct work in the field for extended periods of time.
• Proficiency with MS Word and Excel
• Working Knowledge of light weight cattle health and nutritional management in pen and pasture environments
• Mechanical and welding experience
• Heavy Equipment experience
• Basic engine and mechanical maintenance experience
• Experience with range improvements including fencing, brush control and burning pastures.

Additional Role Information:

• Work is done outside in hot or cold weather conditions
• Must be able to lift up to 50Lbs
