Job Description:

Apex is hiring an Automation Engineer to work on a year long contract in Redmond.

This group is a unique, nimble, multidisciplinary team that turns cutting-edge ideas into shipping products by composing research, incubation, rapid prototyping, and human-centered development. As part of the team, you'll directly shape experiences used by billions of people — from Windows (running on over a billion devices) to Microsoft 365 (used by 70% of Fortune 500 enterprises) and beyond.

Role Details

  • 5 days/week on-site at in Redmond, WA

Scope of Work & Responsibilities

Test Automation & Framework Development

  • Partner with senior engineers and the engineering team to design, develop, and implement a comprehensive, scalable test automation system to validate software across prototype devices and builds
  • Build reusable test frameworks and suites from the ground up, supporting functional, regression, and performance testing
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous validation and rapid feedback cycles
  • Analyze complex test failures, reproduce issues, and provide detailed diagnostic information
  • Contribute to establishing automation best practices and collaborate on framework design decisions
  • C++, Java, Python

Quality & Risk Support

  • Identify, document, and escalate quality risks or potential release blockers
  • Ensure automated test coverage validates critical functionality and high-priority scenarios
  • Partner with project leadership to report automation coverage, test results, and risk assessments

Release & Deployment Assistance

  • Work with PMs and engineering leads to plan, coordinate, and validate automated tests for software releases
  • Execute automated release validation and provide actionable feedback on stability and readiness
  • Assist with post-release validation, regression testing, and issue verification through automation

Hardware & Environment Support

  • Deploy and configure prototype devices or test environments for automated test execution
  • Conduct automated smoke tests to confirm environment and device readiness
  • Maintain detailed documentation of hardware configurations, test environments, and automation setups

Deliverables

  • Fully implemented, scalable test automation frameworks and reusable test suites
  • Comprehensive test execution reports and coverage metrics
  • Documentation of automation procedures, environment configurations, and identified issues
  • Risk assessments and recommendations for quality improvements
