Anchor/Reporter Position at KGW

KGW is looking for creative, driven and curious candidates for a hybrid anchor/reporter position. This employee will anchor our weekend morning newscasts, plus report three days a week for our morning newscast. The ideal candidate for this job will embrace both the reporting and anchoring aspects of this job. On the anchoring side, we want someone who brings authenticity and energy to the newscast. On the reporting side, we want someone who isn't afraid to jump into the lead story, ask smart questions and get creative with their storytelling. As a morning reporter, you must embrace the challenge and excitement of breaking news. You will also have opportunities to pitch and produce original stories tailored for our morning audience. Reporters on KGW's morning show work with a photographer most days but will occasionally be asked to shoot and edit their own stories. Your reel should demonstrate strong shooting and editing skills. Our ideal candidate will also be excited about the opportunity to reach audiences on social and digital platforms. Our reporters and anchors are all required to regularly produce vertical mobile videos. Your reel and resume should include examples of vertical videos that you produced.

Why join KGW? This is a newsroom with a strong legacy of excellence. It's also a newsroom where colleagues support each other, cheer on the success of our peers and hold each other accountable. We value strong local reporting, context in news stories and innovation. This position is a chance to join a collaborative newsroom in one of the most beautiful parts of the country. This role is a full-time, non-exempt position represented by SAG-AFTRA. The position will include weekend and morning shifts.

Responsibilities:

  • Anchor a morning newscast in a way that conveys credibility and authenticity to our audience.
  • Report, write, shoot and edit news stories for broadcast and digital platforms. Use creative production techniques such as graphics and new forms of media to enhance stories.
  • Present stories in live shots, including breaking news when information is limited.
  • Consistently pitch strong story ideas.
  • Regularly produce mobile vertical videos.
  • Maintain the highest journalistic standards in every story you cover.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or related field
  • Strong understanding of journalism ethics and best practices with a minimum of three years of experience in broadcast journalism or a related field
  • Experience with shooting video, video editing for broadcast and digital platforms
  • Ability to generate creative, engaging, content-driven live shots
  • Strong social media skills and presence
  • Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of ENPS, Edius, Premiere, After Effects and Photoshop a plus
  • Ability to work days, nights and weekends as needed
