Key Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate and effective American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation for meetings, training sessions, workshops, and special events.
  • Support both in-person and virtual events, adapting interpretation methods as needed to ensure clear communication in various environments.
  • Participate in required training sessions, orientation activities, and interpreter briefings.
  • Collaborate with event organizers, program staff, and other stakeholders to understand event objectives and communication needs.
  • Maintain professional standards of conduct, ethics, confidentiality, and impartiality while performing interpreting services.
  • Arrive prepared and on time for scheduled assignments and training activities.
  • Assist in creating an inclusive and accessible environment for Deaf and Hard of Hearing participants.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience providing professional American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation services.
  • Strong receptive and expressive ASL communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret accurately and effectively in both virtual and face-to-face settings.
  • Must be based within the New York City metropolitan area and able to travel to onsite events as required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
  • Reliable internet connection and appropriate technology for virtual interpreting assignments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • National and/or state interpreter certification preferred.
  • Experience supporting corporate, government, educational, training, or public-sector events.
  • Familiarity with accessibility best practices and accommodations for Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to different subject matters and event formats.

Time Commitment

  • Minimum commitment of 2–4 hours per month.
  • Participation may include scheduled interpretation assignments, training sessions, and related program activities.
  • Additional hours may become available based on organizational needs and event schedules.

Security Clearance Requirements

All selected candidates will be required to successfully complete a Level 1 Security Clearance prior to assignment.

Depending on future project requirements, candidates may also be asked to undergo a Level 2 Enhanced Security Clearance process.
