Ambulatory Care, Floor Nurse

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) delivers comprehensive patient care across the entire lifespan (from birth to elderly) utilizing the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Directs and coordinates nursing care based on established practice standards while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure quality, cost-effective outcomes. Serves as a clinical resource person and integrates age-specific considerations and cultural sensitivity into all patient care.

Qualifications & Credentials

• Education: Completion of an accredited nursing education program from an NLN-approved institution.
• Licensure: Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing in the State of Alaska.
• Certifications: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
• Experience: 1 year of experience as an RN in a healthcare setting preferred.
• Competencies: Must pass and maintain required position-specific competencies upon hire.

Core Responsibilities & Clinical Duties

• Patient Care Delivery: Administer medications and treatments, interpret diagnostic tests, and manage patient care across the full continuum of care.
• Education & Collaboration: Educate patients, families, and caregivers; collaborate with multidisciplinary providers to optimize care outcomes.
• Supervision: Supervise Unit Secretaries and Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) in collaboration with the Charge Nurse.
• Documentation & Guidelines: Maintain complete and accurate clinical documentation in compliance with Alaska nursing statutes, regulations, and facility policies.
• Adaptability: Maintain flexibility with work schedules and exercise independent nursing judgment within prescribed limits.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Equipment

Technical & Clinical Skills

• Proficiency in basic nursing skills, medical terminology, and basic EKG interpretation.
• Ability to operate medical equipment appropriate to the position (e.g., EKG machines, Cystoscopy equipment).
• Competency in operating standard office equipment (computers, electronic health software, phone, fax, copy machines).

Professional Competencies

• Communication: Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and the public.
• Analytical & Mathematical: Ability to perform dosage and rate calculations (rates, ratios, percentages) and interpret graphs/data.
• Critical Thinking: Proficient in practical problem-solving, reading technical procedures/professional journals, and interpreting instructions in written, oral, or diagram formats.
