Job Description

  • Instruction and Curriculum Development

  • Develop and deliver differentiated instruction that meets state standards and is tailored to the individual academic and emotional needs of students.

  • Design engaging, trauma-informed lesson plans that incorporate social-emotional learning (SEL) strategies.

  • Use flexible instructional approaches to address diverse learning styles and challenges.

  • Behavioral and Mental Health Support

  • Implement evidence-based behavior management strategies and de-escalation techniques.

  • Collaborate with counselors, social workers, and behavior specialists to develop and monitor individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs).

  • Conduct regular progress monitoring and make data-driven adjustments to interventions.

  • Classroom Environment

  • Establish a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom culture that fosters trust, respect, and positive relationships.

  • Maintain a structured and predictable environment that minimizes triggers and distractions.

  • Collaboration and Communication

  • Partner with parents/guardians, administrators, and mental health professionals to develop holistic support plans for students.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, including Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 plan reviews, to advocate for student needs.

  • Provide regular updates to families and team members regarding student progress and challenges.

  • Professional Development

  • Stay informed on best practices for working with students requiring Tier 3 interventions.

  • Attend training in areas such as trauma-informed care, SEL, crisis intervention, and culturally responsive teaching.

  • Seek opportunities for professional growth and contribute to a culture of learning among colleagues.

Qualifications

Certification in elementary education required; special education certification preferred. If a fully certified teacher is not available, a teacher eligible for a permit will be considered. Anyone employed with a permit must commit to take a minimum of six (6) hours toward certification and remain in the position for the 2026-2027 School Year.

Terms of Employment

200 Days

Effective 2026-2027 School Year

  • This is a grant-funded position; year-to-year employment is contingent upon continued funding.

Compensation

Salary based on experience and education level per Clay County Board of Education Salary Schedule, plus competitive benefits package equal to approximately 35% of direct compensation.
