Position Summary The Floating Preschool Substitute Teacher supports Head Start classrooms by working collaboratively with classroom teaching staff to provide a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for preschool-aged children. This flexible position ensures continuity of classroom operations in accordance with Head Start Program Performance Standards (HSPPS).
Major Responsibilities • Support classroom teachers in implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and daily routines consistent with Head Start Program Performance Standards. • Assist in maintaining appropriate adult-to-child ratios and active supervision at all times. • Help ensure a classroom environment that promotes childrens health, safety, and emotional well-being. • Support children during classroom activities, meals, rest time, outdoor play, and transitions. • Follow established classroom behavior guidance strategies and program policies. • Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and program information in compliance with Head Start confidentiality requirements. • Comply with all Head Start health safety and supervision requirements. • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent required. Experience working with preschool-aged children preferred. Ability to work effectively as part of a classroom team. Ability to maintain confidentiality related to children and families. Flexibility and reliability to work across multiple program locations.
Schedule and Hours Flexible as-needed substitute schedule, six 6-hour days, 30 hours per week. Working hours may vary and generally fall between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. depending on program needs.
Additional Requirements Must meet all Head Start background check and health requirements, including fingerprinting as applicable. Must comply with required trainings, including child abuse and neglect reporting and health and safety training.
