Job Description:

Job Summary:

To support district-wide special education staff, general education teachers, and administrators in providing behavioral supports and services designed to assist students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and behavior challenges in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).

About Region One: Regional School District No. 1 is located in rural Northwest Connecticut and comprises six elementary schools and one high school.

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in applied behavior analysis (ABA) or a related field
  • Certification from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) as BCBA in good standing
  • Licensed Behavior Analyst in the State of Connecticut
  • Knowledge of all aspects of behavioral principles, assessment, and intervention
  • Expertise in the field and knowledge of ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorders)
  • Experience working in public schools preferred
  • Effective communication, consultation, and collaboration skills
  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
  • A high degree of initiative and ability to work independently

Reports To:

  • Director of Pupil Services
  • Supervisor of Special Education

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and implement, with appropriate district approval, behavior management and behavioral interventions.
  • Participate in school teams to provide support and management in implementing behavior plans.
  • Provide and maintain appropriate records, and assist and provide guidance for teachers and other staff in implementing behavioral interventions.
  • Provide coaching and professional development to staff on behavior interventions and supports.
  • Participate in Planning and Placement Team (PPT) meetings and student case conferences as needed.
  • Confer with regular classroom teachers and special education teachers/pupil services staff regarding students with behavioral challenges.
  • Establishes effective data collection and graphing systems, analyzes data, and trains staff in methods of data collection and analysis.
  • Participate in the referral and re-evaluation process for selected students when a diagnosis of ASD is being considered for school-determined eligibility.
  • Work cooperatively with special education administrators, school psychologists, social workers, and special education teachers in developing FBA/BIP procedures and protocols.
  • Assist with maintaining student data and preparing pertinent reports requested by the Director of Pupil Services and Supervisor of Special Education.
  • Assist with developing and providing staff training and preparation for working effectively with students with a diagnosis of autism or autism spectrum disorder and those with other behavioral disorders.
  • Selects and implements assessment methods as needed for adaptive and behavioral functioning.
  • Models the behavioral assessment and behavior intervention planning processes for staff and serves as a resource to them.
  • Provides parent training as needed to support students programming and generalization.
  • Develops appropriate (behavioral) goals and strategies with staff, students, and parents.
  • Carries out other responsibilities designated by the Director of Pupil Services and Supervisor of Special Education.

Physical Requirements: Standing for long periods of time, frequent sitting, reaching, walking, bending, grasping and pinching, occasional lifting and carrying, squatting, twisting, or kneeling.

Terms of Employment:

Ten-month school year as determined by the Board of Education with additional hours for Extended School Year (ESY) as deemed appropriate by the Director of Pupil Services and Supervisor of Special Education.

Salary Range: $60,989 - $111,018 (Based on degree and years of experience.)
