Alcohol and Drug Abuse Specialist
Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Alcohol and Drug Abuse Specialist to provide counseling, prevention, and intervention services in a student-focused environment. The ideal candidate will support students in overcoming substance abuse challenges through individual and group counseling, educational programming, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to promote healthy, drug-free lifestyles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide ongoing individual counseling and facilitate substance abuse support groups.
- Introduce students to self-help and recovery programs.
- Develop and coordinate intervention plans and behavioral contracts with counselors, healthcare providers, instructors, and other staff.
- Collaborate with the recreation department to develop activities that encourage healthy, substance-free lifestyles.
- Conduct drug and alcohol testing while maintaining strict chain-of-custody procedures.
- Maintain testing supplies and ensure proper documentation of all testing activities.
- Coordinate and participate in Tobacco Use Prevention (TUPP), Healthy and Active Life Styles (HEALS), and other health promotion programs, including at least three annual prevention events.
- Evaluate student progress and make appropriate referrals for additional counseling or treatment services.
- Maintain accurate medical records, documentation, and required monthly and quarterly reports.
- Ensure compliance with Job Corps policies, Department of Labor (DOL) guidelines, and all applicable safety procedures.
Requirements
- Must meet the education requirements established in the Job Corps Policy and Requirements Handbook (PRH).
- Must meet the certification and licensing requirements outlined in the Job Corps PRH.
- Department of Labor (DOL) approval is required.
- Experience providing substance abuse counseling, prevention, or intervention services is preferred.
- Strong communication, documentation, and case management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of drug testing procedures and chain-of-custody protocols is preferred.
