  • Implement the tribe's air quality monitoring and pesticides program.
  • Manage the operation of all air quality monitors on tribal lands.
  • Complete monitor inspection, maintenance, and calibration according to the program's Standard Operation Procedures.
  • Complete data management and validation requirements as detailed in the program's Quality Assurance Project Plan.
  • Coordinate dissemination of results to the Tribal Council and the community.
  • Research and be aware of local and regional air quality issues.
  • Update the tribe's emissions inventory report as recommended by the Environmental Protection Agency.
  • Provide indoor and outdoor air quality education and outreach to the tribal community.
  • Communicate with EPA regional personnel on air quality issues and resources for program development.
  • Respond to community concerns and inquiries on air quality.
  • Monitor agricultural activity and pesticide applications on tribal lands.
  • Ensure that all pesticide use on the Cocopah Reservation complies with applicable tribal ordinances and federal regulations.
  • Complete pesticide inspection reporting.
  • Prepare and submit quarterly grant reporting to the EPA.
  • Assist in developing funding applications to support the tribal air quality and pesticide programs.
  • Submit a monthly report to the EPO Director.
  • Attend in-person and virtual trainings for skill development.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the Clean Air Act (CAA), including the major goals, programs, and requirements of the CAA.
  • General knowledge of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act.
  • Must have working knowledge of computers and programs (Windows, Microsoft Office programs, Zoom).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Desire to understand the Cocopah environment.
  • Willing to work both in the office and the field under all weather conditions.
  • Ability to help develop written reports, assessments, and documents.
  • Bilingual preferred but not required.

Qualifications

  • Testing may be required.
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must be able to pass DPS/FBI Fingerprint background check.

Education and/or Experience

  • An associate's degree in environmental science or a related physical science is preferred. Completion of trade school, professional or technical certification, or specialized training.
  • 2 years of work experience in the related field

This is a full-time, grant-funded position (40 hours per week). Under the guidance of the EPO Director, the Air Quality & Pesticides Program Coordinator will oversee air quality monitoring and pesticides compliance monitoring on Cocopah tribal lands.
