Basic Function and Distinguishing Characteristics

Under the direction of the assigned Air Pollution Control Division Manager, leads and participates in the installation, maintenance, calibration and repair of a variety of electronic and mechanical equipment used in air monitoring; performs data code compliance and analysis; reviews, tracks, and assures completeness of all aspects of air monitoring, works directly with the APC Division Manager and other agency representatives to facilitate a smooth implementation of all air monitoring in Imperial County.

This is the advanced journey and lead level in the Air Pollution Control Monitoring Technician series. Under general supervision the position performs the more complex technical work and assists in the oversight of the Imperial County air monitoring program by tracking equipment, operational debugging, training, and review and assistance to the site operators; assures data capture and analysis meets federal and state requirements; and prepares technical reports.

Education and Experience/ Licenses and Other Requirements

Completion of an electrical journeyman certification or associates degree from an accredited college or university in an environmental field of interest OR five (5) years experience installing, inspecting, operating, and repairing analog and digital air quality monitoring equipment and communication devices for an industrial or public agency.

Valid California Drivers License and possess, or be able to obtain, a State of California Visible Emissions Evaluation Certification (VEE) within one (1) year of appointment.

Supplemental Information

A valid driver's license may be required at the time of appointment and employees may also be required to drive their own vehicle and provide proof of liability insurance as per Vehicle Code VC § 160020. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

This position may require pre-employment drug test, physical examination, and fingerprinting for a background investigation.
