Primary Purpose:
Assist Special Education teacher in implementing student IEPs. Work under general supervision of principal and immediate direction of certified teacher.

Associates degree or two years of study 60 college hours at an institute of higher learning or Paraprofessional Institute Certificate
Valid Texas educational aide certificate
Special Knowledge, Skills, Ability:
- Willingness to work with children with disabilities

- Ability to communicate effectively with adults and children
- Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
- Ability to adapt to changes in routine and needs of students
- Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics

- Ability to work with and effectively communicate with diverse groups

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Implement and progress monitor student IEPs under the direction of the Special Education teacher.
- Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials.
- Help maintain a neat and orderly learning environment.
- Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
- Collect data daily, keep administrative records, and prepare required reports under the direction of the Special Education teacher.
- Assist students with physical needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning under the direction of the Special Education teacher.
- Assist students with personal care needs, including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene under the direction of the Special Education teacher.
- Manage student behavior, including implementation of behavior intervention plans and research-based behavioral interventions as directed by the Special Education teacher.
- Under the supervision of a certified teacher or campus administrator, intervene in crisis situations and physically restrain students within District-approved procedures as necessary for staff and student safety.
- Establish and maintain appropriate communication and professional relationships with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
- Assist in supervising special education students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom.
- Maintain confidentiality to comply with FERPA regulations.
- Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
- Perform other duties related to Special Education as assigned.
