Aerothermal EngineerApplied Technology Solutions, Inc. (ATS) is seeking a talented Aerothermal Engineer to join a growing team of engineers, technicians, and scientists supporting a diverse customer set to solve a complex set of technical challenges. As a member of the Advanced Materials team, a successful candidate will support material, component, and system development activities for hypersonic and other flight vehicle systems. The candidate will work closely with highly technical, collaborative team members to:Generate aerothermal boundary conditions for vehicle analysisAssess material response (e.g., ablation, decomposition)Generate and analyze vehicle trajectoriesPerform survivability analysis and establish operational boundsDesign important components and subsystems that enable vehicle performanceGenerate derived requirements for materials and components that inform manufacturing and integration activitiesInternal Code: Mid-Level EngineerRequirements5+ years of relevant experienceBS in Aerospace Engineering or related technical field (equivalent experience may be accepted)Secret DoD Clearance or the ability to obtain a Secret DoD ClearanceExperience supporting research and development activitiesDemonstrated experience developing thermal boundary conditions from flight trajectory dataExperience performing computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis using commercial software tools (e.g., STAR-CCM+)Strong communication skills – both verbal and written – with demonstrated experience in a technical environmentSelf‑motivated and able to work effectively in a fast‑paced, collaborative, research and development environmentSpecial PreferenceAn advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Engineering or related technical field (equivalent experience may be accepted)Demonstrated experience performing coupled physics modeling and simulation on thermal protection systems (TPS)Demonstrated experience developing and executing large‑scale parameterized modeling studies utilizing Monte Carlo or other applicable optimization methodsDemonstrated experience working with test engineers to anchor modeling to experimental dataDemonstrated experience working within an integrated production team to deliver analysis and design artifactsDemonstrated experience developing and documenting technical solutions for program proposal effortsATS is a drug‑free workplace.
