Purpose and Scope
The Social-Emotional Learning Advisor (SEL Advisor) supports school-based implementation of SEL strategies aligned with the MSCS Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). Advisors coach and collaborate with school teams to embed social-emotional learning into instruction, adult wellness, climate systems, and intervention supports—grounded in the district's belief that Greatness Grows Here.
Essential Job Functions
- Support implementation of SEL across Tier 0 (adult wellness and staff culture), Tier 1 (universal student supports), and Tiers 2–3 (targeted and intensive student interventions).
- Facilitate and model SEL instruction, relationship-building strategies, and trauma-informed classroom practices.
- Provide coaching and consultation to school staff on SEL practices, self-regulation, and adult wellness initiatives.
- Analyze school-level behavior, climate, and attendance data to inform interventions and planning.
- Deliver professional learning on SEL integration, teacher wellness, and equity-centered practices.
- Partner with counselors, behavior specialists, and leadership to support schoolwide SEL systems.
- Support peer mentoring, student leadership, and family connection efforts related to SEL.
- Perform other duties as assigned or directed.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, or related field plus a minimum of four (4) years’ experience in supporting student and/or adult social-emotional growth in K-12 setting; OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience totaling eight (8) years. (PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED).
Degree Equivalency Formula:
Bachelor’s Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.
Master’s Degree= 2 years plus required years of experience. Where Master’s degrees are required, years for Bachelor’s Degrees must be included.
