Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • You will serve as a senior attorney providing legal advice and counsel to boards and program areas within the Agency, including attending board meetings and hearings.
  • You will research and stay knowledgeable on relevant legal issues and identify those that could impact the Agency.
  • You will assist with researching the impacts of proposed legislation on licensing boards/commissions and other Agency programs.
  • You will assist with drafting and implementing legislation that impact Agency programs.
  • You will assist with board and committee meeting materials and drafting a variety of legal advisory memoranda, policies, procedures, and communications.
  • You will represent boards in appeals and in state or federal court, meetings, and special task forces and committees.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • A juris doctor degree or its equivalent from an accredited law school and experience as a practicing attorney.
  • Member of the SC Bar.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years' experience as a practicing attorney.
  • Completion of Rule 403 requirements.
  • Considerable knowledge of SC laws, Administrative Procedures Act, policies, standards and procedures of the AGs office, general case, statutory and common law, judicial and quasi-judicial procedures and rules of guidance.
  • Ability to interpret laws, analyze facts, evidence and legal instruments, express conclusions and arguments clearly and logically, and make presentations and prepare reports.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Other Requirements

  • Position functions primarily in an office environment with extended periods of sitting and standing.
  • May require work outside of normal Agency business hours.
  • Occasional weekend work and travel (local and overnight).
  • May be required to lift, carry, move and/or position objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Daily filing, data entry, telephone and computer use.
