Position Overview

The water damage specialist advanced is an expert in the drying and restoration of residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings and their contents. This role serves as a local, regional, and national resource for complex water damage restoration projects and catastrophic loss response.

The specialist is responsible for managing advanced drying systems, large-loss restoration environments, specialized remediation projects, and multiple production teams simultaneously. Expertise includes electronics and machinery management, document and content restoration, psychrometry, thermodynamics, temporary power systems, and HVAC integration to optimize drying efficiency.

This position represents level 4, the highest level within the water damage career progression path. In CAT (catastrophe) situations, the advanced specialist may lead multiple crews and oversee significant production responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Direct teams in the proper use of PPE and safety procedures.
  • Review daily project requirements, document progress, and communicate challenges or updates to management.
  • Provide accurate field documentation, photographic records, sketches, and drying logs for TPA and insurance-related projects.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, and building layouts.
  • Develop moisture maps and psychrometric records to determine drying objectives.
  • Calculate moisture loads, affected cubic footage, and determine equipment needs for large-loss projects.
  • Determine electrical consumption requirements for drying equipment and temporary power systems.
  • Operate and manage 220/110 converters and temporary power setups.
  • Perform daily inspections and maintenance checks on company vehicles and equipment.
  • Lead and supervise multiple crews across multiple restoration projects simultaneously.
  • Ensure compliance with company standards to protect customer property and maintain jobsite quality.
  • Maintain strong customer service standards and professional communication.
  • Work within strict deadlines and respond effectively in high-pressure environments.
  • Travel periodically and work nights and weekends as required, especially during CAT events.
  • Accurately report labor hours, equipment usage, and consumable materials.
  • Attend required operations, safety, and technical training programs.

Requirements

  • Supervise and self-perform water damage basic and intermediate level tasks.
  • Manage large-loss water damage sites and specialized remediation projects.
  • Create moisture maps using advanced drying tools and methodologies.
  • Supervise multiple restoration crews on simultaneous projects.
  • Determine appropriate disposal procedures and obtain liability releases when necessary.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of IICRC S500 water damage standard.
  • Working knowledge of IICRC S520 mold remediation standard.
  • Current IICRC ASD designation required.
  • Demonstrated mastery of advanced water damage restoration principles and procedures.
  • Proficient with moisture meters, infrared cameras, hydrosensor, thermal hygrometer, navpro moisture meter, or equivalent equipment.
  • Strong understanding of affected vs. unaffected building materials and contents.
  • Advanced knowledge of air mover calculations, LGR dehumidification charts, electrical power specifications, and electrical circuits.
  • Strong understanding of psychrometry, thermodynamics, HVAC containment, and structural drying systems.
  • Experience working within commercial and large-loss building environments.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle in accordance with company vehicle policies.
  • Strong sense of urgency, professionalism, positive attitude, and work ethic.
  • English literacy and verbal communication skills required.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent lifting in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Occasional assisted lifting of 41 lbs. or more.
  • Ability to access and work in tight or confined spaces.
  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.
  • Ability to use mobile devices for data collection and time tracking.
