Division of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes at Children's Mercy

 

The Endocrinology/Diabetes Consult APP will work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team to provide care to patients with both chronic and acute care needs in the inpatient setting. Management of diagnoses include but are not limited to: endocrinopathies such as diabetes (new and known), DKA, medication-induced hyperglycemia requiring insulin management, thyroid disease, traumatic brain injuries with endocrine implications, protocolized endocrine conditions such as 22q post-operative ERAS, and other stable endocrine conditions that require serial inpatient monitoring. Additionally, the APP will work collaboratively with endocrinologists to interpret stimulation tests, fasting challenges, and data from diabetes technologies such as insulin pump data and/or continuous glucose monitoring (CGM). The inpatient Endocrine APP will also provide diabetes education and facilitate smooth discharge care coordination and follow up.

 

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse I (APRN-I) provides comprehensive, evidence-based advanced practice nursing to address the physiologic, psychosocial, and developmental needs of patients and families within the framework of the collaborative practice agreement. The APRN-I participates in beginning leadership, evidenced-based practice/ research, and organizational development activities with the support and direction of an experienced APRN mentor.

Responsibilities: - Clinical Practice: competently provides comprehensive, evidence-based advanced practice nursing care to address the physiologic, psychosocial, and developmental needs of patients and families within the framework of the collaborative practice agreement. - Professional Practice: actively participates in beginning leadership, evidenced-based practice/research, and organizational development activities with the support and direction of an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse mentor. Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree Required and 1-2 years experience Pediatric RN experience. Exceptions considered on a case-by-case basis within preferred specialty.
  • Other DNP preferred and 1-2 years experience Pediatric RN experience. Exceptions considered on a case-by-case basis within preferred specialty.
  • One of the following: Licensed RN - MO, Registered Nurse Multistate License Missouri required upon hire
  • One of the following: Licensed RN - Kansas, Registered Nurse Multistate License Kansas required upon hire
  • RN Compact license for all states besides KS and MO
  • APRN KS Advanced Practice Registered Nurse KS APRN license in Kansas Required Upon Hire
  • APRN MO Advanced Practice Registered Nurse MO APRN documentation of Recognition in Missouri Required Upon Hire
  • APRN board certification congruent with population and practice setting (see policy statement: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Roles and Practice Setting) Required Upon Hire
  • Refer to Nursing and Advanced Practice Provider Licensure and Certification policy for required Life Support Certifications Required Upon Hire
  • PNP-Acute Care will be required
    • candidate will have two years to enroll/be accepted in a program and five years to complete the program
  • Specialty Certification relevant to unit’s patient population (determined by Nurse Manager/Director) Preferred
