SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center Advanced Practice Fellowship is a postgraduate otolaryngology fellowship that will educate highly qualified graduate nurse practitioners and physician assistants to become skilled, compassionate, and efficient otolaryngology providers. Fellows will acquire enhanced clinical proficiencies through didactics and patient care, which cultivate enhanced technique and expertise in a fast-paced academic medical setting. This distinguished fellowship fosters a successful transition to practice by way of a multi-disciplinary healthcare approach among a team of accomplished healthcare providers and collaboration with other specialties.

The curriculum will be divided into four blocks of 3-month duration, focusing on various areas of general otolaryngology, as well as dedicated time focusing on advanced subspecialized otolaryngology, otology, and neurotology, pediatrics, laryngology, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery, and head and neck oncology and surgery. Fellows will develop skill sets for otolaryngology procedural skills, such as flexible laryngoscopy, otomicroscopy, epistaxis control, and biopsies.

NURSE PRACTITIONER CANDIDATES

Nurse Practitioner candidates should have Family certification, as we care for patients across the lifespan primarily in an outpatient setting. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters degree in Nursing and currently licensed as a Nurse Practitioner by State or employment
  • OR Graduate of an AMA-approved Physician Assistant Program or baccalaureate or higher degree program that meets licensure requirements in the State of employment and National Certification in State of employment or in another State with reciprocity and licensure to practice in the State of employment
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
