Job Summary

The Adolescent Medicine Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) provides comprehensive, developmentally appropriate primary and specialty care to adolescents. The APRN practices in collaboration with Adolescent Medicine physicians and an interdisciplinary team to deliver evidence-based, patient and family centered care across outpatient and inpatient/consultative settings. Responsibilities include completing history and physical examination; ordering and interpreting radiological and laboratory test results; prescribing medications, documenting patient care services within the EMR and departmental records; and performing procedures within scope of practice and demonstrated through competency. The APRN will report to the Section Chief.

Job Specific Duties

  • Performs comprehensive health assessments, including medical, psychosocial, behavioral, sexual, and reproductive health evaluations on adolescent patients.
  • Diagnoses and manages common adolescent health conditions, including but not limited to- menstrual disorders, contraception, sexually transmitted infections (STI), eating disorders, and mood and anxiety disorders.
  • Ensures plan of care is of sufficient breadth and depth to guide the interdisciplinary team in achieving the desired health outcomes for patients and families.
  • Prescribes medications, orders and interprets diagnostic tests, and develops individualized treatment plans for patients.
  • Ensures understanding and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the developmental level of the patient.
  • Provides counseling and anticipatory guidance related to risk behaviors, mental health, nutrition, physician activity, and preventive care.
  • Accountable for maintaining current expertise and skills in order to facilitate a high quality of clinical performance and to promote professional growth.
  • Ensures accurate timely documentation in the EMR within 24 hours.
  • Participates in other necessary activities associated with patient care (writing daily progress notes, coordinating clinical care, discharge planning, etc.).
  • Performs procedures as demonstrated through competency.
  • Precepts APP students.
  • Recognizes need for physician consultation and guidance as indicated within experience and scope of practice.
Qualifications

Minimum Job Requirements
  • Master's degree in nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice
  • APRN State of Florida Licensure - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  • Certification by the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioner Certification Program (AANP), or Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB)-maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  • American Heart Association BLS - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  • Level II Background Check - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
  • Successful completion of Credentialing by NCHS Medical Administration
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Adolescent Gyn experience preferred.
  • Pediatric Nurse Practitioner preferred.
  • Able to relate cooperatively and constructively with patients, families, and co-workers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Ability to problem solve to formulate a plan of care and evaluate the patient's response to care.
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and react calmly under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to understand and communicate plan of care to Adolescent Medicine patients.
