Role Purpose

Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to plan, implement and evaluate the plan of care for extracorporeal life support (ECLS) patients. Responds to routine and emergency needs of ECLS patients and supports a team of specialists providing care for ECLS patients.

Responsibilities

Demonstrates expertise in caring for the most critical patients by monitoring the ECLS circuit and patient status and responding to the needs of the patient on ECLS.Monitors the ECLS patient and circuit to anticipate and prevent potential problems. Identifies and corrects problems associated with ECLS procedures.Responds to routine or emergency ECLS needs.Serves as a resource to and supports bedside specialists providing care for ECLS patients. Collaborates with members of the healthcare team to develop a plan of care.Assists with planning, conducting, and evaluating educational activities regarding extracorporeal life support for professionals, patients and families, and the public. Contributes to quality initiatives and the development and maintenance of policies and procedures of ECLS.
