Step Into the Role

Picture a day in Bennington, VT: you kick off by sketching a new composite component concept, translate it into a detailed CAD model, and run FEA to verify stiffness, strength, and stability. By mid-morning, you’re shoulder-to-shoulder with manufacturing and process engineering, refining the layup strategy so it’s buildable the first time—DFM and DFA top of mind. After lunch, you document decisions with clear specifications and reports, review tolerance stacks with the team, and close the loop by preparing prototypes for test and validation. Along the way, you’re scanning new material systems, fabrication methods, and industry trends to keep our solutions out in front.

What You'll Tackle

  • Conceive, design, and mature composite structures and components across varied applications.
  • Verify performance using analysis and simulations to ensure integrity and reliability.
  • Partner with a multidisciplinary team to confirm feasibility and manufacturability.
  • Produce and present complete technical documentation—specs, drawings, and thorough reports.
  • Continuously track advances in composite materials, processes, and tools.
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute actionable, constructive feedback.
  • Support prototype build, testing, and evaluation to meet program requirements.

What You Bring

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience designing composite parts in a production/manufacturing environment.
  • Deep working knowledge of composite materials, fabrication processes, and design tools (CAD, FEA).
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Collaborative mindset and effectiveness in team settings.
  • Clear, confident written and verbal communication.
  • Project management aptitude with the ability to juggle multiple priorities.

Technical Toolkit

  • GD&T and blueprint reading for clear definition and inspection.
  • CAD and CAD/CAM software for modeling, drafting, and manufacturing handoff.
  • FEA and tolerance analysis for performance and fit validation.
  • DFM/DFA and process engineering fundamentals for build-ready designs.
  • PFMEA to anticipate and mitigate risk.
  • Mechanical design & engineering best practices.
  • Product design experience from concept through release.
  • Bachelor's Degree (required).
