Description

The City of Davis Playfields Sports Park is located in South Davis, and houses 2 softball fields, 1 baseball field, a sand volleyball court, a full-sized turf soccer field, batting cages, and a playground structure. Internal and user-group programs operate out of Playfields Sports Park, alongside public field rentals.

The City's Adult Softball leagues run 3 times a year (Spring, Summer, and Fall) and has Co-ed, casual and competitive competition. League games are Tuesday - Thursday, from 6:15pm - 10:15pm. All games are played at Playfields Sports Park.

Status: Temporary part time (no benefits, paid for all hours worked)

Minimum Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age or have education equivalent to completion of high school.

Hours:

During adult softball season: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons and nights from 5:30pm - 10:30pm. Approximately 10 - 12 hours a week.

Outside adult softball season: As needed and available. Approximately 5 hours a week.

Additional weeknight and weekend hours may be available as needed to support batting cage staff, field rentals, and user-groups using Playfields Sports Park.

Wages: $20.48/hour

Examples of Duties

Typical Responsibilities:

• Assist with the recruitment, hiring, training, supervising and evaluating of adult softball score keepers and batting cage staff
• Monitor logistics of softball games, batting cage operations, and user-group events
• Maintain accurate scorekeeping records
• Display positive communications with participants and staff; greet public and respond to questions appropriately
• Have a working understanding of City of Davis Adult Softball rules and regulations
• Have a working understanding of USA Softball rules and regulations
• Assist with developing City of Davis Adult Softball game schedules and season structure
• Oversee proper use of facility by both staff and participants
• Communicate with program and facility attendants via phone and email
• Routinely check with supervisors regarding programs and events that utilize facilities at Playfields Sports Park
• Be able to effectively work with adult program participants in a variety of settings and situations
• Address conflict that occurs at the facilities
• Ensure equipment and facilities are safely and properly prepared and maintained; arrange for broken or unsafe equipment and facilities to be repaired
• Keep work environments clean and organized
• Prepare weekly documents, acquire necessary supplies and assist with the facilitation of staff meetings
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other City staff
• Timely and efficiently provide daily and weekly reports to supervisors

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Applicants must be at least 18 years of age or have education equivalent to completion of high school
• Possess a valid California Driver's License
• At least 2 years of softball or baseball experience
• Current certification in Child & Adult Standard First Aid and CPR
• Knowledge of batting cage mechanical operations desired
• Experience supervising and mentoring staff and volunteers
• Ability to demonstrate strong skills in leadership and team building
• Ability to provide strong internal and external customer service
• Ability to communicate effectively with participants and other City employees
• Ability to display good judgment, problem solving and critical thinking skills
• Must be able to complete a list of other required online trainings prior to the start of the program, including but not limited to: Concussion Training, Blood Borne Pathogens, Sudden Cardiac Arrest Protocols, Mandated Reporter, Heat Illness, Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination.

Physical/Sensory Requirements:

Staff should be prepared to work outdoors, in various environmental conditions each week. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. This is an active position requiring the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 lbs.; verbal and hearing skills to effectively communicate with the public and City staff; visual acuity to oversee projects, and make observations. Work is done both indoors and out, with exposure to heat, often over 100 degrees, sun, noise, dust, pollens and slip hazards when near water. Potential for exposure to blood borne pathogens when rendering first aid.
