Summary/Goal of Position:
The Strong Start Family Literacy Instructors will collaboratively deliver a seven-week intergenerational summer program designed to support incoming kindergarten students and their parents/guardians. The program integrates early childhood education, adult English as a second language (ESL) instruction, parent education, and parent and child together (PACT) activities to strengthen school readiness, build parent capacity, and foster meaningful homeschool connections aligned with Danbury Public Schools. Each instructor will lead their respective instructional component while working as part of a coordinated instructional team to support whole-family learning.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred in education or related field
Appropriate certification or experience aligned to position:
Early childhood instructor: background in early childhood or elementary education required; at least one of the following certifications:
(112)- Integrated early childhood/special education, birth-kindergarten AND/OR
(305)- Elementary, PK-6 AND/OR
(512)- Montessori, primary, birth to kindergarten AND/OR
(102)-Remedial reading and remedial language arts, 1-12 AND/OR
(111)- Teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL), pk-12
Adult ESL Instructor: background in adult education language acquisition and one of the following certifications:
(111)- Teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL), pk-12 AND/OR
(088)- Non-English speaking adults
Parent Education Instructor: background in early or elementary education, counseling, social work, or related field preferred; experience working with adult learners, young children, or family engagement programs preferred; one of the following certifications:
(305)- Elementary, PK-6 AND/OR
(102)-Remedial reading and remedial language arts, 1-12 AND/OR
(092)-Intermediate administration or supervision AND/OR
(068)- School counselor AND/OR
(071)- School social worker AND/OR

(305)- Elementary, PK-6
Strong organizational and communication skills required
Reports to:
Regional Director of Adult and Continuing Education and Assistant Director of Family Literacy and Multilingual Programs for Adult Education
Work Schedule:
This program will meet twice per week on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from July 7 through August 20, 6:008:00pm. In addition, the instructional and leadership team will participate in a one-hour weekly virtual meeting to support coordination, cohesion, and instructional alignment. Compensation also includes 1.5 hours per week dedicated to family engagement and student outreach to support participation and retention.
