Adult Day Services Center - Director and Caregiver Support Coordinator

An Overview

The Adult Day Care Services Manager manages the Adult Day Care Services Center and directs all operational phases of the Adult Day Services Center Program including staffing, program development and maintenance, public relations, and facility maintenance. The incumbent exercises considerable independent judgment and initiative in developing and maintaining the Adult Day Care Program in accordance with the prescribed policy and within financial limitations. Work is performed under the supervision and guidance of the Aging and Adult Services Chief and is reviewed only from an overall standpoint in terms of success of the Program, compatibility with other long-term programs, and effectiveness in meeting Program requirements or expected results. Supervisory control is exercised over a small staff of full and part-time subordinates and volunteers.

What You Should Bring

The ideal candidate should have thorough knowledge of health, human services, or a related field, with emphasis on knowledge of impaired elderly or disabled individuals; some knowledge of State licensing procedures and requirements for an elderly day care facility; ability to supervise, evaluate and assist subordinates in the performance of duties; skill in maintaining mutually productive interpersonal work relationships; ability to make effective use of available resources; and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing. The Opportunity

  • Provides supervision and direction to Program staff and Title V employees (a Federally Funded Program to place and train seniors 60 and over with various companies or organizations who would like to get back into the workforce and to find full or part-time employment);
  • Assists in personal care of participants when needed and staff absences;
  • Monitors and stimulates participants on a daily basis;
  • Assists in loading and unloading participants from contracted transportation services and personal vehicles;
  • Acts as the primary Caregiver support contact for the Division of Aging & Adult Services
  • Coordinates with CRIA to provide Information, Referral, and Assistance to accessing services
  • Facilitates respite care for participants;
  • Coordinates DAAS' participation in Virginia's Dementia State Plan;
  • Provides initial screening and assessment of clients and family caregivers;
  • Schedules and conducts center tours for potential participants and caregivers;
  • Conducts and oversees the opening of new cases and evaluation of those cases after a trial period, closes out discharged cases in accordance with established written procedures;
  • Consults and gives information and referrals to families needing long term care;
  • Reviews and evaluates Program, facility, staff and supply needs and develops recommendations;
  • Coordinates Program with other City program services and activities;
  • Develops and revises policies and procedures for operating the Program;
  • Develops, reviews, and revises day care forms, and maintains client records;
  • Plans and conducts staff meetings, various regulatory required in-services and trains staff on proper safety procedures;
  • Participate in Division of Aging & Adult Services Management Team meetings to brainstorm on ideas and solutions to better serve seniors in Alexandria;
  • Performs as liaison to Commission on Aging;
  • Maintains accurate records to be compliant with several licensing agencies regulations, funding and financial reimbursement;
  • Coordinates and communicates transportation needs and concerns between the center and transportation company;
  • Provides counseling, fellowship, professional suggestions and support for the caregivers and their families;
  • Assures caregivers and families that their loved ones are safe and well cared for;
  • Manages the facilitation of the caregiver support group for the families of the Adult Day Program and the residents of Alexandria;
  • Develops and distributes marketing material for use in the community;
  • Assures that the Day Care Center exhibits at seminars and conferences;
  • Communicates, visits and networks with other aging sources in the Northern Virginia area;
  • Makes recommendations for program changes and implements changes as indicated.
  • Performs CPR and First Aid procedures as needed;
  • Conducts, host and attends quarterly Adult Day Program State association meetings.
  • Coordinates the purchase of equipment and operational supplies
  • Prepares monthly reports and participants billing invoices.
  • Performs related work as required

About the Department

The Center for Adult Services (CAS) provides programs and services in Aging; Adult Protective Services; Clinical & Emergency Services; and Community & Residential Support Services for seniors and for persons with mental illness, intellectual disabilities and substance use disorders. CAS provides compassionate and effective person-centered services based on best practices. Our teams support self-determination, safety and recovery for Alexandria residents affected by abuse, neglect, mental illness, intellectual disabilities and substance use disorders.

Minimum & Additional Requirements

Four Year College Degree; Considerable experience working in day support programs for persons with mental illness, intellectual/developmental disabilities or substance abuse, in a an administrative, supervisory capacity. Some program management skills along with supervisory skills, budgeting and money management.

Preferred Qualifications

Three (3) or more years in an administrative or supervisory capacity providing services to elderly, impaired adults and/or persons with disabilities in an Adult Day Services Program.

Notes

This position requires the successful completion of pre-employment background checks including but not limited to: FBI/Federal Records Check; VA State Child Abuse/Neglect Registry; Medicare/Medicaid Fraud Database; education/certifications; and driver's license.

Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30am - 4:00pm, evening and weekends as needed.
