POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for managing the operation of the nursing units in the facility. Assists the Director of Nursing with administrative duties and the supervision of nursing staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Acts as liaison between nursing units admissions and the DON. • Monitor resident performance and re-evaluating resident performance or lack of performance. • Attend meetings and committees to address resident care issues as needed. • Monitor weekly and monthly weights. • Monitors and evaluates nursing staff and makes recommendations for training or work modification to the DON. • Monitor meals and breaks to assure compliant staff. • Monitor meals and temperature of meal trays. • Performs personnel management functions such as establishing personnel qualification requirements drafting procedure manuals initiating in-service programs and installing record and reporting systems. • Monitor noise level and satisfaction of residents with care or dissatisfaction. • Performs studies to evaluate effectiveness of nursing services in relation to their objectives and cost. • Monitor and audit charts weekly for Episodic Medicare documentation. • Ensures that annual competency evaluations and performance reviews are completed in the appropriate time frame. • Rounds on unit multiple times per day to assure needs are being met. • Pro-actively addresses survey and/or standards of care issues weight loss gradual dose reduction pressure ulcers & change of condition etc. • Follow up on resident/family/employee concerns in a timely manner. • Plans and guides the professional development of nursing staff. • Daily chart audits to review all assessments nursing summaries MARS treatment flow sheets and nurses notes to ensure that they are informative and descriptive of the nursing care being provided that they reflect the residents response to the care and that such care is provided in accordance with the residents wishes. • Monitor medication passes and treatment schedules to ensure that medications are being administered as ordered and that treatments are provided as scheduled. • Report any medication errors and any significant changes of resident status to the Director of Nursing.

Ensure that residents who are unable to call for help are checked frequently. Ensure that all personnel involved in providing care to the resident are aware of the residents care plan. Ensure that nursing personnel refer to the residents care plan prior to administering daily care to the resident. Ensure that all nursing care is provided in privacy and that personnel knock before entering a residents room. Ensure that nursing service work areas nurses station med rooms etc. are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner. Ensure that all resident care rooms treatment areas etc. are maintained in a clean safe and sanitary environment. Ensure that all nursing personnel follow established policies and procedures including appropriate dress codes. Assist the DON in investigations of all allegations of resident abuse. Represents the DON at meetings in the community and assumes responsibility for nursing operations in the Director of Nursings absence. Works with the staffing coordinator to ensure that shifts have adequate nursing staff to meet facility census requirements. Assists DON in preparing reports and forms in a timely manner. Participates in counseling disciplinary action and termination of staff to the extent permitted by state practice act. Answer resident call lights and ensure that all residents are checked frequently. Any suspected abuse must be reported to the Director of Nursing Administrator immediately. Perform other tasks as assigned.

Educational Requirements and Experience
Graduate of accredited RN School of Nursing Valid RN license in State of Alabama Valid CPR certification One- two years of nursing experience preferred.

Ability to communicate effectively with the residents and their family members and at all levels of the facility. Ability to react decisively and quickly in emergency situations. Knowledge of training techniques for clinical staff. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
